cje001
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-13489641 Quotes.... Robert Fitzpatrick, a retired transportation agency worker in New York, said he had spent more than $140,000 (£86,000) of his savings on advertisements in the run-up to 21 May to publicise the prediction. "I had some scepticism but I was trying to push the scepticism away because I believe in God," said Keith Bauer, who travelled 4,830km (3,000 miles), from Maryland to California, where Mr Camping's Family Radio is based, for the Rapture. Serious question..... are people crazy??? Its one thing to believe this, which is totally nuts IMO but to spend £86k on it?!?! Has the world gone mental? Religion is usually at the cause of everything that is really bad in this world! I know the above is a sweeping statement but someone tell me otherwise? - World Wars - Well, all wars pretty much - Terrorism I mean look at Celtic - Rangers for one, mental! Religion divides our world and on the back of that crazy things happen in which people are killed. Yes drugs, crime, disease, famine etc are bad but this is a society problem, this is due to human cravings for other things to experience emotions and 'highs' or due to lack of natural resources, climate or simple evolution of that countries infrastructure...etc. Religion vs Science.... there really is only one winner for me, crazy, crazy world. Attero
I'm not sure if you are aware of this but this has been posted twice now although I can understand if you are dividing the thread into a religion gullibility discussion. I came across some Street Pastors the other day who I had an in depth conversation with about the world ending on 21st May, and they told me it was utter rubbish. They also told me that Jahova's Witenesses are also full of crap and to never listen to the rubbish that religious people have to say about the worlds end (despite themselves being strongly christian). There is a reason for this and I know what it is, but because I'm not religious, I shall not go into details. What confuses me though, is the fact that a majority of people are just as gullible as they were thousands of years ago and it makes me wonder if we really have evolved as human beings? There is plenty of scientific evidence out there to prove that a lot of things didn't happen and that they are stories made up. This happens to be a story that was also made up about the world ending and people are probably thinking, "why would he spend that much money if it was to fail?"... stupidity is the reason. The guy looks like he's not got many years left so let him be stupid! But for gods sake, does everyone have to believe every word a maniac says? In America, this seems a troubled case. When you are religious in the US, you are deeply religious. You are a follower of what could potentially have been a fictional character... and with fiction comes ridiculous stories. If something from the bible can be ridiculous, this obviously means that everything else can be ridiculous too. So they are pulled into so many stories. At least there could have been some sort of economic growth.
jazz1
That's not stupid TBH, the stupidity is from the governments who created nuclear bombs and weapons for no need. Also you can not blame religion for this because it was the fool behind making his own predictions.

Personally i just don't dont get Religion. Yes, there are people who thought this guy was a nut.... There were many many muslims who think the Taliban, Al Qaeda etc are crazy Plenty (if not all) thought Hitler was nuts BUT still the three examples above caused HUGE, like on a global scale disasters, economic damage, death, suffering etc It all steams from Religion. Its like the blind following the blind.... I mean base principles, all Religions cant be right, some have to be false, in reality and i`m a strong believe in science, they are all wrong. Am i naive or am i just realistic?

All religions believe they are the religion and want to dominate, all governments want to be the most powerful and dominate the world, all gangs want to be the most feared and dominate their areas, all football teams want to be the 'best' and dominate the leader boards, all little baby lambs want to get the most food from it's mother so it can be stronger and dominate the other lambs..... have I made my point? Unless the whole world enters a state of euphoria, this will never end. It's human nature... well actually just nature.
David P
Before we knew different, gods were the explanation for gaps in our knowledge and for millennia this failing has been manipulated for power and riches. Then along came Charles Darwin with reality. Since that time, those with denial of this truth are best regarded as insane.
penguin
Then along came Charles Darwin with reality. mawby
Since that time, those with blind denial of this truth are best regarded as insane.Would that not include Charles himself then, who documented his belief in evolution as a theory? A theory is, by definition, a supposition or a system of ideas intended to explain something, especially one based on general principles independent of the thing to be explained, and therefore not a truth. Until such a time as someone invents a time machine, or we are visited by aliens who have actually been recording our worlds history as part of a Truman style show, we will never know whether we just happened to be or whether some other higher being created us. BUT (yeah there`s always a but) Your comparison becomes less and less destructive as you go down the ladder... Religion IMO causing the worst atrocities Governments after Gangs Football fans Baby lambs Plus the geographical scale these influence diminishes with each level... My point being Religion is at the root of the majority of MAJOR events which are usually really bad or just plain crazy (like this weekend)

It was an alleged quote, it isn't proven fact. None of the Bible has any grounds of evidence behind it, not 1 single thing, it is all based on a faith and belief system. You can choose to believe it or you can choose not to. What you cannot do is throw out quotes as accepted fact. I've just re-read that and you probably glazed over not long after Jazz. jazz1
Nah blame the governments first, just because one fool comes by you do not see this everytime on tv? You mainly see crime, war hatred an that builds up more because of the media is conrolled. As far as I see this it is the governments too blame. How was either the UK or US goverment to blame for (few examples) 911, al Qaeda, Saddam Hussain, Hitler, etc.... David P
Would that not include Charles himself then, who documented his belief in evolution as a theory? To be the first person to propose a godless reality was a 'precarious' position at the time and his only option. Yet inordinately better than claiming fiction to be truth and manipulating into a protection racket.

mawby
i'm sure we'll all find out when we die I totally agree. My view is - let's not worry about it; just live our lives as 'good' people simply because we want to rather then trying to get into a heavenly place or being fearful of a vengeful god, and then worry about what happens next when it happens. If I'm right then I would have had a content life without fearing the afterlife... if I'm wrong I'll probably be forced to spend the rest of eternity moderating the afterlife Supra forum's off topic section. They told the people in that country they would help them, instead they decided to build the pipeline and take out the oil, why can't they help countries like Africa?. They believe so strongly in their religion that they are willing to kill and sacrifice to clense the earth (remind you of anyone... what am I thinking, of course not). Take away religion and you take away the fanaticism. As for the oil??? Seriously??? lmfao

Christ on a bike! That's a terrifying thought. As for Jesus and shellfish - it's true. (He personally told me when I was in Camden market looking to buy a bespoke pair of shiny trousers) anyway here's the proof, in writing: Leviticus 11:9 "...These you may eat, of all that are in the waters. Everything in the waters that has fins and scales, whether in the seas or in the rivers, you may eat"
