dani_r
Can anyone recommend a good removal tool for the standard filter please? Thanks
Tyson
Have you just tried doing it by hand? Have you warmed the engine up as it will make it easier to do the oil change Edited May 23, 2011 by Tyson (see edit history)
bodilx6
It's very hard to get a proper tool in there. Even worse if you got a sandwich plate mounted. If you can't get it out by hand (I used to remove the battery and could just reach it then with my right hand from above), I would suggest to push a screw driver through the filter and then turn it. Swampy442
You already have them on the end of your wrists
bigbloodyturbo
Agree with the screwdriver shoved throught the side, was the only way i could get mine off without spending all day on it.

Chris Wilson
http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/products/products/53439/clarke_oil_filter_claw_wrench_cht424.html I use something very similar, lots of different people sell this style removal tool, but I access it from underneath on a ramp. Got one of those. Only ever managed to fit it on my peogout 206 as there is plenty of room . Really good tool though, if it can get in there. As Chris describes, it can be done from below where there is a small "access plate" you can remove that makes it a tiny bit easier to get to. I've just relocated it when I installed an oil cooler. That helped. Somewhat ;-)
Scooter
I use the metal belted type, the type in chris's link on the right for £5.95. They get a good grip on the filter and are long enough to give you enough leverage to get it the quarter or so of a turn (2-3 loosen and tighten cycles as you can usually only turn it 10-20 degrees or so with the limited access) you need to loosen a stiff one before it becomes doable by hand. stevie_b
Any strap wrench. Don't use a chain-based one: they're liable to perforate the oil fitler and make a bit of a mess.
garethr
Buy one of these (I believe 74mm x 14 flutes is correct for the standard Toyota filter, but check whatever filters you use). It makes changing the filter a piece of the proverbial (at least it does on the Soarer and Aristo). http://www.lasertools.co.uk/item.aspx?cat=375&item=1090
Iky
Ive used one of these on the Supra. http://photos.autoexpress.co.uk/images/front_picture_library_UK/dir_36/car_photo_18182_7.jpg

I've actually bought this tool, i'm just hoping there's room in there for me to get at the filter and actually use the tool! I will let you know how I get on. BTW - 74mm and 14 flats is right
Scott
Have you tried your hands? Get both of them in there with a wet rag and give it a twist. I've not had one that I can't get off with my mits yet.
