Will do some reading up etc but in people`s experience which is a good one to go for? Obviously im pretty 'entry level' as it were! Any thoughts would be helpful (oh and is the above one on Ebay decent?) Chris
Dnk
Check out the Gadget show reviews, i think they rate the Nikon D3100 very highly
imi
I am a beginner too and bought a canon 550d last year. No regrets.
Pixelfill
With the Canon range, it's fairly easy to interpret. The more digits in the number the lower the level, Within each level the higher the number the newer the model with the exception of the single digit models (but if you were looking at this level you would know this ). so a 1000D is an entry level SLR - Canon describe it as beginner the 500D is a mid range level - Canon describe it as entry level the 50D is a semi pro / enthusiast the 5D is a pro level the 1D is the daddy. looking at the mid range level as an example the 300D was the first release, the 500D is a couple of years older, the 550D was the last model and the 600D is the current model Anything labelled as Rebel is an American import - beware because I'm not sure Canon Europe will honour the warranty. hope that helps Mike edit to add, that as models have been released it is possible that the lower levels have surpassed the capabilities of older generation enthusiast bodies so take the above as a guide to how they were pitched at release, not necessarily how they directly compare now.
