d-_-b
Think I saw one of these a few weeks ago - Know what you mean about it being loud!! I was outside photo'ing a real large moth when I heard this real loud buzz behind me near the security light: (Macro lens isn't ideal for trying to photo in limited light and a bug that wouldn't stay still ) The moth I was taking pic's of (if interested lol):

Suprab1
Yeah them Cockchafers are a pest. If we leave the bedroom window open at night, in they come. The noise they make on a wooden floor trying to get back on their feet at night grrrr. I did hear before if you splat them you just spray their eggs across your house
Blackie
Yep, those cockchafers have been dropping in, literally, a few times this month. It must be the warmer weather. Quite harmless, but they just can't land properly! They are brilliant, They sound like little helicopters

C_Strike
they were in serious decline during the start of last century, over sue of pesticides in agricultural lands reduced them to comparitively few but thanks to better pesticides and techniques, they have made a come back. Large and incompetant flyers but i think theyr funky little things
