a98pmalcolm
Now I'm not the one to go around killing harmless insects and animals. If theres a spider in my room (even the big ugly ones) i will gently put it in a pot and let it out side. But this thing freaked the hell out of me. It is about 1 inch in length, very loud clattering wings, fur on its chest (easiest part to describe) and is stripey anal thing like wasps have was massive.. I generally pooped myself (and I'm not afraid of allot) but if this had a sting i reckon my balls would have popped if it stung me! So i Had to go commando on its ass with the BB gun especially as it was disturbing my La Noire sesh! Any idea what it is? http://img687.imageshack.us/img687/8436/20110521001.jpg http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/3567/20110521002.jpg http://img38.imageshack.us/img38/2523/20110521003.jpg Ugly git isnt it! lol

supra joe
Cockchafer or MaybugMelolontha melolontha.^ At 20-30mm in length this beetle is often seen flying towards lights during the warm evenings of May and June.^ The May Bug used to be a serious pest to farmers as the larvae eat their way through large quantities of the roots of crops in fields.^ The consequent use of insecticides has reduced their numbers in many areas of Europe. The lifecycle is around three to four years long.^ The adult female visits fields where she burrows into the ground some 20-30cm^ to lay a batch of 25-30 eggs.^ The larvae eat through plant roots before burrowing down to a greater depth of 30-40cm where they will hibernate over the winter months.^ They eventually pupate during the summer months and the adults emerge before autumn.^ Freshly emerged adults will hibernate overwinter before visiting woodland during the spring to feed on a variety of deciduous tree leaves including oak, birch, rowan and beech.^ When they have fed the females return to the fields to lay their eggs; the first of up to three batches during the spring and summer.^ The adults return to the woodlands to feed between laying each batch of eggs.Throughout Britain, Maybugs are most frequently seen in southern England. AndrewOW
Yep, those cockchafers have been dropping in, literally, a few times this month. It must be the warmer weather. Quite harmless, but they just can't land properly!
SupraDan24
We call those June Bugs up my way. We used to go out smashing them with tennis rackets when we were kids. They get stuck in your hair and you have to cut them out haha.

Still I bet you felt really cool, creeping up on it, using stealth, then pop, pop, pop with your gun, shouting "You dead, I said.... You dead!!"
