Noz
Looking to upgrade my cam shafts, so the search is on for some 2JZ adjustable cam gears. I know the only different between the NA and TT cam shafts are the dizzy gear due to people swapping to coils and using the same shafts, but are the gears different? Thanks in advance. Chris Wilson
The gears are the same. Choose hard anodized or steel toothed gears. Hard anodizing is nearly always black or very dark grey. Soft anodized alloy teeth wear badly.
Noz
Thanks Chris. Tried emailing you while back as well about getting some cams checked over after getting them sent over to TTC? No reply? Do you have equipment to check cams im sure i remember you talking about such a thing.
Chris Wilson
Sorry, I appear to have missed that, I seem to get hundreds of mails every week, some inevitably slip by unnoticed or unanswered. I have a Cam Doctor machine, but the transducer has packed up, making it currently unusable. I am trying to source one cheaply, the manufacturers want the whole caboodle back and are talking big money. It's on the "to do" list, but near the top. Kent Cams or Piper Cams have similar machines and would check them out for you at modest cost (probably £40 to £50 for the pair, less if you were having them make something different). Noz
Ok no worries. Ive emailed kent cams about some re grinds they were speedy to reply. So I assume with re-welds im checking for shaft distortion, and just anything not conforming to a balanced shaft?
Chris Wilson
I can check it for bearing run out on a spindle centre set up, just can't currently measure duration reference to degrees. I would hope it's straight, it's just how well ground the lobes are really.
Noz
The cams are supposed to be 268 duration, apart from being able to measure the duration reference what other bonus would I have sending them to kent cams rather than yourself? Is the duration reference very important?
Chris Wilson
If you want a full spec card for them I would send them to Kent or Piper, or wait until I get around to sorting this transducer out.
