Guest George89
I think i have blown a turbo but i aint 100% sure. it won't produce boost till about 2.5K rpm which goes to 0-4 bar but it feels so slow compare too before, lose all torque everything at low rpm. After 4.5K rpm the boost goes from 0.4 bar to 0 bar!. Another thing is at low RPM 2K rpm if i floor it and let go i can hear the blow off valve but on the boost guage it shows 0 bar. Could this be a blown turbo? or a boost leak near the turbo? I check all IC piping everything is good and all vacuum hoses.

heckler
does it smoke on boost?
Chris Wilson
Sounds like an intercooler pipe is partly off or split.
Guest George89
My brother did say when i pulled off he saw s bit of black smoke but thats it really, i wasnt on boost I will put the car on a ramp hopefully saturday and check all the piping. What i dont get why it stops boosting when the 2nd turbo kicks in
Robzki
I imagine if there was a split or weak joint it would hold together until a certain pressure is reached, 0.4bar in your case, it then has just enough back pressure to open up and release it all in one go. at which point you are effectively making enough boost to hold the split/joint open. I quite often spout rubbish though I'd wait till someone with more knowledge than me comes along , Hey, even I have trouble believing me sometimes. Paul Whiffin
Easiest way to check if the turbos are blown is to remove the 1st cat if you still have it that is. You will find bits of your turbo in there. Other than that could be a multitude of things, boost leak somewhere, vsv, pressure tank, etc.
Tyson
Is there a coloured dye type thing similar to what they use to find leaks in AC systems ?
Scott
Have a look at the actuators and make sure they are all closed, a sticky actuator can cause your issues. Take out the headlights and the battery and have a GOOD look at all the IC piping to make sure there are no leaks or splits. Thoroughly check all the Vac lines to make sure none of them have came off or split. Check that all the VSV plugs are connected properly. Get a length of Vac hose and convert your car to run in TTC mode (True Twin Conversion), it takes 2 mins and involves swapping over 2 hoses. Once in this mode you should get nothing till around 3.5krpm. It should be making full boost slightly after that, around 4krpm. Once you have pulled the car over check the actuators, if the EGCV and upper one (can't remember the name) are still open then the pressure tank is ok and the VSVs are all fine. If any of them are closed or the car didn't make full boost then there is an issue. If all of that checks out 100% it's time to start pointing fingers at the turbo(s).
