Nic
Which gearbox?
bignum
6 speed, was it ok before the oil change? i`d only ever use the proper v160 toyota oil, its getting rare now, at a push royal purple is supposed to be ok.
pistonbroke
Hmmm, oilman from opie oils is a very knowledgable chap who really knows his stuff. I doubt he'd sell you stuff that wouldn't work. Did you do the oil change yourself? If so, did you do it on a flat level surface to get it up to the proper level?
Swampy442
If you put ATF, automatic transmission fluid, into a manual box, youre in for bad times. Id deffo double check what oil you were supplied, and not drive it until you do
Chris Wilson
Are you sure it's not a clutch problem? ATF is basically what the Toyota stuff is, so I doubt it would be that causing your issues.
fastcar
I was having lots of problems with gear change on my supra. I changed the clutch and slave cylinder master cylinder and now no probs. I did have a RPS street max clutch and now have a compeition clutch so that might have been some if the problem.
DuaneT.Turbo
Hey, Thanks for all the replies, Yeah it is a 6 speed V160 gearbox, the gearchange was a bit clunky before the change btu now worse, i didnt do the change myself, it was done on a 2 post ramp im pretty sure the same time as my diff and engine oil... I drove it once more yesterday and carefully listened, when i dipped the clutch i heard a sligth clunking noise, could this indicate a clutch problem? D
spidermonkey
Check the clutch fluid is topped right up to max, silly question but do you have fitted floor mats? If so check that it hasn't ridden up to stop the pedal going fully down (it's happened to me before). You may also need to bleed the clutch. DuaneT.Turbo
Sorry for my small reply's, i was at work... It had a triple plate clutch fitted november last year (before i owned the car), so i'll check the clutch fluid level when i find it (anyone wanna give me a heads up where to check and bleed this?? ) and i've moved the mat out the way as this nearly cought me out too.... I'd like the car runnin tip top for Japshow so all your help is appreciated.. D
DuaneT.Turbo
I assume the clutch fluid and brake fluid use the same resivoir? If so the level is ok.... Does it sound like it could be the slave cylinder? If it was the clutch wouldnt it do it in every gear not mainly second?? Cheers D
Swampy442
Nope the clutch res is seperate to the brake fluid res. And 6 speeds are rough clunky boxes anyway.
DuaneT.Turbo
Oh ok... I best check teh right res then.. oops....
DuaneT.Turbo
My Clutch fluid is a tad below min.... only thing is i dont know wheter its dot3 fluid of not so am i best to drain, fill and bleed? I assume its not wise to try dot3 incase of mixing?? D
Lude
my 6sp doesnt like going into second gear when cold. well it goes in, just need to push it in a little harder than when its warm. no clunks with me tho, as above i think its quite common for it to be a bit difficult to get into second gear when cold.. DuaneT.Turbo
Just to add, not sure if yours is the sane Lude... When the cars in neutral and you try to change to any gear including second when stud still it goes in very easy.... Could this indicate any source for the problem? Cheers Duane
