bradleyh_15
3p a litre could buy in bulk out there and ship it hear for cheaper than buying it at the pumps hear!
j_jza80
3p a litre?! Our petrol often goes up 3p a litre in one week!
marc_p
It's all because were tax'd 4 times on petrol, no Tax on it and we would be paying mere pennies aswell. It's tax'd on import tax, fuel duty tax and another tax, then it has 20% VAT added onto all that tax, were paying tax on tax on tax. Wonder how long it will take before the population actually get off there areses to do something about it.
Matt H
Most if not all of those places are the producers and exporters of oil so it's not suprising how little they charge their own people for it. Imagine the protest in Venezuela when petrol goes up to over 5p a little!
Josh
We should start a war to gain control of the oil....

The thing is britian wont, apparantly we like to bend over and let the government rape our backsides!! Any other country and it would be road blocks, riots, protests etc... The Raven
What we should do is find an excuse to go to war with these countrys maybe some form of WMDs? Then we can control the oil and we will get it cheaper......... o wait.
Attero
There are enough people complaining about the petrol prices and enough people that would take action... it's just getting everyone to do it all at once. People are too committed to work so they can afford to get back home! The government have stuck us in a bloody loop! Also, in those countries, would they not be earning a lot less? A Venezuelan might earn 100 times less money than the average UK person. If we went over to Venezuela, we wouldn't have a problem with purchasing petrol, but they might find more of a struggle to afford it in their own country (let alone if they came into our country). stevie_b
If UK petrol wasn't taxed so much, the government would need to get that lost tax money from somewhere else. Income tax, maybe? Or a rise in VAT? It would be interesting to compare the price of petrol in those against the cost of living. I looked up the average wage in Venezuela, and one website reckoned about £4,500. That still makes their petrol very cheap. Good times for them.

That is true, in the majority of cases they are probably in the same boat as us, fuel prices in line with earnings.. Although that said it still costs me £500 a month to get to work...and thats not in the Supra (Supra would more like be near a grand)

Attero
This doesn't seem right... Average Venezuelan Salary: $13,500 $13,500 Venezuelan bolivars = 3.86 British pounds
stevie_b
Don't forget the oil companies have a hand in setting the forecourt prices too. The price of crude oil has come off hard in the last week or so. These price changes can take a few days to take effect at the forecourt, but I haven't seen any price reduction yet.
Attero
I've seen a 1p reduction (yesterday). Now paying 140p.

Soop Dogg
Any other country and it would be road blocks, riots, protests etc... Petrol is actually already more expensive in France, Germany and the Netherlands. They don't appear to be rioting, blocking roads etc. This time around, we don't appear to be suffering more than other countries when it comes to petrol. Diesel is a different matter though as we are taxed higher than almost any other european country on diesel.

Average Venezuelan Salary: $13,500 $13,500 Venezuelan bolivars = 3.86 British poundsIs that 13,000 USD or 13,000 bolivars? If it's USD it's in the same ballpark as my £4500 figure. If they got rid of Road tax i wouldnt have a problem paying 140 pence for diesel But if they got rid of road tax, they'd have to either cut govt services, be a leaner more efficient govt (I'd prefer this option: not sure it'll happen though) or tax you in a different way to make up the shortfall. Probably why we have two different figures
johnny g
The thing is France dont pay road tax though IIRC... This. I pay £285 a year in Road Fund License on the BMW and £185 (IIRC) on the Supra. I'd be happy enough with the fuel prices if we didn't pay that.
