cje001
All, Read a thread last week about this issue as i had it on my skirts, pics below after i treated the skirts to a bit of lemon juice and salt and then t-cutted afterwards! Decent result. Question is: Car is going to the bodyshop on the 27th May to have Signature front bumper and Trial rear fitted so while its there i`m gonna get the chap to have a look at the underside of the doorr... What have others done in this situation? Shave a bit off the bottom of the door (is this even possible)? Oh - also my new plate arrived today - surname is ELTHAM so not bad Before After Plate

evinX
Dude that salt and lemon business wont do anything to rust...its cancer for metal. You WILL have to take the skirt of then you can take it from there, be expecting lots of heavy rust, probably looking at a cut out and weld in plate. If its not to bad it can all be grounded away, fibreglass over and filled, painted and put the skirt back on. Get some hammerite rust killer gel, turns all rust to a black liquid and washes it away. Make sure you ask your bodyshop about using a acid primer on the bare metal to reseal it from rusting again:)
evinX
Or if the rust is on the skirt itself it could be coming of the bottom of the door as the gap is slightly tight and dor tend to rust at the bottom:) the skirt is plastic of fibreglass and those dont rust HTH:)
DodgyRog
It more than likely your door pins have warn and the bottom of the door is touching the skirt Do a search for door adjustment it's come up before or order some new pins from Mr.T if they still do them

jonc
I had this on my last car which had OEM skirts. The bottom of the doors rub on the skirt and I suppose the paint eventually rubs off the bottom edge of the doors. I kept on top of it by constantly waxing the bottom of the doors (bare metal cant rust if the oxygen cant get to it!) and in the 5 years I had the car I did not get any rust growth on the bottom of the doors. I had the skirts repaired when they split and they were repositioned and had some material removed from the top edge to solve this problem. It was'nt 100% succesful but was a lot better. I'm not sure if all skirts cause this problem but I can imagine quite a few do as the gap between the door and the sill is quite small. This is one of the reasons I dont want skirts on the present car (and I prefer the OEM lines:D)
Chris Wilson
I'd repair the door by rubbing back to bare metal on the edges and re painting and bin the skirts. Whilst you might think they look good, they won't look so hot when the door bottoms have holes in them

May see if the bodyshop guy has any suggestions as don't really want to lose the skirts..
turnerjr
Depending on how much the door rubs, You could try lifting the doors very slightly on the hinges, you will only get away with 2mm at the very most though as it will throw your panel lines out. You will also have to adjust the striker to allow for this and change the bolts that go from the door to the hinge as they have locating shoulders on them
