Josh
What is wrong with people?! When I sold my Golf the guy didn't want to test drive it and "took my word" that it ran ok (which it did). He then decided the whistling of the turbo was "annoying" so long story short he got his money back. I put the alloy wheels on Ebay and after a few bids they were won for £250. The guy came round to buy them today. My Dad was here and sold them to him. Once he'd driven off my Dad got a conference call and after he got off it noticed the buyer had called him 20 times and left him an answer phone message saying "call me back urgently!!" He called him back and the guy was saying that the wheels don't fit his car and that they "never came off a mk5 Golf". After 20 minutes of him being rude to my Dad and not believing they came off a Golf he said "I'm coming back and you better be in" to which my Dad said "I won't be, I've got to pop out" so the guy says "You'll be f'in sorry if you're not there mate!!". The guy took the wheels to an Audi dealer who couldn't fit the wheels either. After another 15 minute phone call, my Dad gave him a website showing that the wheels are 5x112 and his Audi (old shape) is 5x100. The idiot hadn't bothered to check if they would fit. He said he's going to come back and he wants his money back. If he does then he'll have us both to answer to as the advert stated they came off a Golf mk5 and it's his fault that he didn't do his research. Sorry for the long post but I'm p!ssed off with people getting arsey because they didn't do the research before buying something!

fizzle
theres no way i would have taken the car back because the turbo was "annoying" thats ridiculous!!! If the prick with the wheels would of been nice about it, explained the situation politely i may have taken back the wheels, minus relist fee but only if he was very nice about it.. The fact he's given you a load of verbal and been a c**t about it.. tell him to go f**k himself with a tyre iron.. the bloody nerve of some people is amazing!! Well my Dad replied telling him exactly what the situation is (apparently he was some dumb guy and it shows in his email. Over half the words were spelt incorrectly..) and saying he'd have offered the wheels to the person that came 2nd in the bidding. He said "because you were so rude to me and wouldn't listen to what I was explaining to you, I am now not willing to help you out". Fair enough if you ask me! Josh
get the boys down...find him...hurt him...rob him...PUB Haha, sounds about right to me! Unfortunately he knows where I live and I don't know where he lives apart from "Walsall". Hopefully he'll leave it at this after realising he's in the wrong, otherwise we'll have to meet up to have a "talk" with him

jonathanc
That's why I rarely eBay anymore... last time I sold a video card to an eBayer packed it up nicely sent 1st Class Signed for etc then he complained it didn't fit (because the card was PCIe mobo has an AGP slot) gave me lotsa abuse and demanded me to pay for the cost of him posting the card back to me + compensation for his "inconvenience"! One thing that helped in my eBay advert is an addition of an "Sold As Seen" clause and also urging people to check details before buying. RobSheffield
I rarely bother with ebay either. I sold a heater control unit on ebay for the Range Rover i had. Unit worked fine, i only replaced for one that had heated seat buttons since id put heated leather into it. So i get the parcel back with a letter saying it didnt fit and demanding an immediate refund. I emailed to say i wouldnt refund postage if i tested it and it worked and that it would take me a short while to test it. In the course of a few emails back and forth it turned out the guy had a fault with his aircon and had decided simply replacing the buttons would sort it! Funnily enough it worked when tested! Abz
I would have sent him a link to show it doesn't fit his car and tell him "Don't believe what your mates say". If you wasn't rude, I'd help you, now it is your problem as this is a Golf wheel and you have an Audi, you fail.

Crikey, those things are a given when it's a private seller. It's shocking that sellers should need to explicitly state it. Where does it end? Explicitly telling people not to use a banana as an oil filter?

Explicitly telling people not to use a banana as an oil filter? Given the morons on eBay recently Id say yeah for sure. Feel for you Josh its a pain in the arse selling stuff now. Mainly why I stick to car forums now as the people are generally a bit wiser and give you less stress

Chris Wilson
Twice this year alone I have refused to sell used bits to people on the basis they look and sound total *ankers, and I can foresee grief. Best to send them on their way doubting my sanity than have the hassle of dealing with their moans and groans when a used widget fails in 9 months, after abuse and misfit-ting. I am a qualified expert at spotting a moron, by the way, and am seeing more and more this year
