Suprab1
Me & a mate are looking into opening a garage. We have found a place that is fully kitted out & are happy enough with the price of lease. Now here's the problem, he is out of work & i'm finishing up in a week. I've spoke to a few people who told me we can get help with the lease & stock ect but that's just from people who was told from a friend of a friend sort of thing. Does anyone know how to go about this? Another thing i need is a good business plan but not really sure how to go about this? My mate was manager in a garage before & we are both good workers so i know this will work. All we need to do is get help for the first few month & i'm sure we can take it from there. Thanks, Rab
RobD
Not sure if the prince of Wales trust could help as your in Ireland, perhaps try that though
jagman
Irelands economy is on the edge of an abyss , so probably not the time to start a new venture ! What is the catchment area ,how many cars? , what is the competition? what makes of car ? Given everyone will be skint in Ireland , perhaps a DIY oil change type thing could work , ie people pay to use ramps and DIY , you provide oil and filters and dispose of old oil , rent out tools if necessary . Drive in drive out type thing , cheap is the way forward...

jagman
Well its a simple concept ! easy to start , and 24 hour opening allows for maximum useage ,everyone forgets shift workers!! old oil can be used for heating ,most garages charge for oil disposal ! a mechanic on hand for those who are worried that they will cock up also helps , bulk oil purchase reduces cost, lots depend on the quantity of cars in the area , if the middle of a small farming community ,simply would not work ! monsween
That sounds like a fantastic idea. What you recon a per hour cost would be?

People seem to be looking after the cars they have these days & not changing so much. I'm going to take another drive out today for a good look around but it's a big village & there is no other garage within about 10 miles. The garage we are looking at was a main dealer but afaik they were told to move into a business park (i will find out more about this). I already have customers who use me at home & so does my mate. We will be located just of a slip road on the main dublin to galway motorway. The thing with letting the public use the lifts ect would prob be very expensive for public liability insurance plus alot of people don't really know how to maintain cars properly.
