gavin.starr
Supra failed its MOT due to the rear nearside wheel bearing having to much play in it. Are these a pain in the arse to replace as some don't need pressing out but I imagine these do? I got quoted £186 + vat from toyota for the bearing which I thought was fewking ridiculous, I was going to change both sides for piece of mind but that means over £400 just for parts. I just thought i would ask to see if anyone had replaced any recently that could comment on how they were to replace. Many thanks Gav
Monkpower
I had the same problem when I got mine MOT'd a few weeks back. Rear nearside bearing needed replacing. Wheel bearing kit cost £75.81. I'm sure you can source one from someone on the forum for a good price mate.
scotty71
I got quoted 290 + vat to fit and supply off a trader on here. I think thats expensive when the bearing can be got for 70 notes so that is alot. 70 bearing + 2/3 hours labour
David P
I have a non ABS n/s rear hub assembly with good bearing you can have for £20? Edited May 7, 2011 by David P (see edit history)
gavin.starr
I was going to tackle it myself, but I didn't know if they need pressing out or not, some rear wheel drive cars ive worked on had tapered bearing so there a piece of piss to fit. If they need pressing out I will probs just end up removing the whole hub assembly's and taking them with me to get them pressed out. Should save me some money too, as im absolutely skint at the moment. I know paul has some at £102 including VAT so i may end up going for those. imi
They do need pressing out.
DuaneT.Turbo
I had this problem and was reccomended by Paul off here that 99% off people fitting new rear wheel bearings will need a new drive flange too which is more exensive than the actual bearing... i havent got round to ordering anything yet till im next paid D
gjp
Got mine from here 2 years ago and not had a problem http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Toyota-Supra-JZA80-3-0i-Turbo-NA-Rear-Wheel-Bearing-/230279069286?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item359db3be66
gavin.starr
Do you have to take the rear hand brake assembly apart to press them out or can it be done with them in situe?

Chris Wilson
The whole lot has to come off the car and be fully stripped. The can be a nightmare. You will probably need a new hub flange, too. I have all the tooling to tackle these in an efficient manner, including some custom tooling I made. Without good tools and a big press you may wish that you hadn't started the job! I was going to take it to a local garage to get them pressed out, well i say a local garage its a mate of mine that works at ford so i would like to hope they have all the gear there. I take it there not just as straight forward as expected then. Edited May 26, 2011 by gavin.starr (see edit history)
barneybrendan
What size press would you need .
Chris Wilson
You can never tell, some press out at 15 tonnes or less, some make my 75 tonne press work up a sweat and go with a hell of a bang. having done loads there are a few tricks, but I am afraid they will have to stay up my sleeve for commercial reasons
barneybrendan
Dont blame you either Chris, people have to pay for experience.Just im looking at getting a press rather than pay to have my charger bearings pressed out and in again and was curious to sizes required for certain bearings. gavin.starr
Does any one know of a decent garage that may be able to do these for me in Preston. My mate is too busy at work so he cant do them. It needs to be local due to the fact that my polo is also knackerd and im having to push bike it everywhere. I would come to you Chris but i think your a bit far out of range on a push bike
gavin.starr
Had my Mot re test today, bloody failed again but on emissions this time due to them not realising that it was an import or something. But i have two advisories which are rear wheel bearings!!! I have just had these bloody replaced. I find it hard to believe that i could have bought two new faulty wheel bearings! Is there something else that can throw it all out to make it feel like the bearings? How they were fitted etc... Im feeling pretty Pi**ed off right now as i really wanted it back on the road asap as my other daily driver is also buggered. So i just thought i would ask on here if there is anything else that could be at fault, before i go pointing the finger of blame Gav
TTRickeh
I had the same problem. Your 32mm hub nut must be torqued VERY tight (200+ lbft, I forget the actual figure but it'll be on the forum somewhere)

gavin.starr
Ive done the whole lot my self, including a sub frame change so i basically had the whole back end of the car off. All gone perfectly in my eyes, and the one thing i give a garage to do they manage to f**k it up. Garages cant be trusted unless you know them and they come well recommended. Meh Gav
