Am I correct in assuming that this is your opinion (even though you do not expressly state so)?
No, I do not believe that all people who believe in a religion are just following like sheep, with a sheer lack of basic intelligence. Similarly though, I also don't imagine that all members of the EDL are either, even despite the video evidence to the contrary. :)

We evolved from nothing, but nothing can not be nothing, how can nothing be zero if nothing is nothing then nothing is equal to something :). So we came from nothing making us evolve from something ie big bang, so in theory something was before nothing :).

Speaking of nothing, there is certainly plenty of it in your head. Please stop trying to seem clever. You are rubbish at it.

I would have to agree with you there but I probably wouldn't have put it so bluntly.

What the hell is everyone on about, this has nothing to do with the original thread. It was a challenging discussion now it has turned into mindless drivel. As Duncan Bannatyne would say "For that reason, I'm out"

I would have to agree with you there but I probably wouldn't have put it so bluntly.

Even Bannatyne can't resist drivel and for that reason, it seems he's back in.

And you are rubbish, creating frost all the time, lost soul.

You can;

Hey man, why did you close the other thread?! I was doing this crazy multi-tasking at work, typing bits of my post and doing work at the same time. The thread was quite interesting. In any case, just to answer the questions and clarify on points made, please find my post below. You are then free to close the thread immediately afterwards :D

Why do you have to believe in God to believe in humanity?

I never said that you had to believe in God to believe in humanity.

Ironically, it's the people that don't believe in God or an afterlife, but do right in their lives and look after others that are the truely good people in the world. As they don't do it for reward, they understand that they won't get a big thank you and a seat next to the big man after death. They do it because they are in-builit with empathy and a moral compass that doesn't need reason or a selfish push to be good.

Not necessarily. If we are to view this objectively, people only do so simply because that is how they are designed (if you dismiss God's existence for the sake of argument). You are correct in that:

They do it because they are in-builit with empathy and a moral compass

But remember, you guys are failing to understand the point I am making about the grand scheme of things. I'm not talking about the quantitative value of humanity and its emotions, but the value of it. Matt H is talking about empathy and this so-called moral compass. I'm asking you, where are you deriving these standards from? Many scientists repeatedly state that the purpose of human beings is to simply reproduce. That just attributes a mere numerical value to our existence. So all this talk about empathy, love and selflessness isn't really relevant.

Let me put it crudely;

Person # 1: Kills, rapes and causes 'evil' by our understanding

Person # 2: Charitable, caring, compassionate.

End result: both dead- no memories. All the pain suffered by the hands of the victims or the joys and love enjoyed by the receivers are a result of biological processes also ultimately negligible as the above drowns in the 'sea of history' if you will.

But just to entertain your really well worded point Matt- one could argue that the atheist in your scenario could also be argued to be selfish. Afterall, maybe Stalin or Hitler thought what they were doing was "right". This concept of 'good' or 'right' is always in a state of flux- never definite and possibly reflecting the sentiments of the majority at the time.
