SPG
Hi Everyone, recently i decided that i needed a new and complete Socket set, i already have various small induvidual sets but fancy getting a Complete package of the same brand. I noticed the usual suspects, Snap-on, Mac tools, Britool etc but wondered due to budgeting measures if the Halfords Advanced Professional 150pc socket set would be in with a shout. I have given a link to the said set underneath http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_173083_langId_-1_categoryId_165572#dtab I noticed that they are going for £99.99 with a saving of £100 over RRP. I will only be using this for Supra&BMW/Honda work, and around the house/work, but to be honest i wont be doing anything overly stressing with them. Thanks
stevie_b
The Halfords set should be fine. IMO that one is a good set for the DIY mechanic. Sure, Snap-on/MAC etc may be stronger, but their price tag tends to be eye-watering and hard to justify for a DIYer. If anything breaks (which is unlikely with domestic/DIY use), they replace it free of charge. I think the ratchet mechanism is exempt from this guarantee, but that's no great shakes. Halfords often have some kind of deal on that set, but £99 is a good price, they won't sell it much below that if at all. As an aside, one thing I wish was more common was metric-only sets. Most of the sets around (including the one you linked to) have metric and imperial. My imperial stuff rarely comes out of the box TBH. I know some modern cars (US-only ones?) still use them, but not many.
Matt H
I bought this set for a real bargain about 5 years ago. It's not something you'd initially think of but It's be utterly brilliant over the years. Everything still in great condition and I've used it for loads of different applications. Probably discontinued, but what I'm trying to say is whatever is equivalent now is worth a look. Perfect for the part time DIYist. http://www.jamestowndistributors.com/userportal/show_product.do?pid=4093&familyName=Crescent+148+Piece+Tool+and+Socket+Set

SPG
Contact "littlenum" or check his for sale thread in the "Other Items" section Hey Josh, i did notice the set that "littlenum" was selling but to be honest buddy, i would rather just pay the extra and get a lifetime warranty
Suprab1
I have the same kit + many more of halfords tools. I find most of there stuff very good, i also give my ratchets & sockets/spanners a nice bit of abuse & they have never let me down. Imo far better than the chocolate tools from the likes of draper ect.
sideexitsupra
I bought some Sealey stuff from Tooled Up. Have been fine for my amateur use and they were very competitively priced at the time. Might be worth a look?

Scott
The Bacho sets that little num is selling are 2nd to none, fantastic kit with an amazing ratchet. However, the halfords pro range is also excellent. Coupled in with the lifetime guarantee (Sellotape the reciept to the kit) it's a no brainer really. Great buy.
stevie_b
(Sellotape the reciept to the kit) I'd sellotape a photocopy: the receipts are printed on thermal paper, and there'll probably be nothing visible on it in a year or two's time.
Scott
I'd sellotape a photocopy: the receipts are printed on thermal paper, and there'll probably be nothing visible on it in a year or two's time. They last OK if they are sealed, not great but OK. If they see too much daylight they are hopeless though. Are halfrauds OK with photocopies?
