Question re: Toyota Recaro Supra Seats

Hi guys,

I need to pick your brains.

Please only reply if you are 100% sure of the answer!

I'm the car importer Mark Kindell spoke of - and I need a question answered.

I am currently trying to source a 1998 RZ VVT-i 6 speed for a customer.

I have located the car in question at a dealership in Japan - but it has the Toyota Recaro seat upgrade.

Can anyone tell me if these seats have the same electronic/manual adjusters as the standard Supra seats.

Again the car is a Blue 1998 RZ VVT-i 6 Speed. I've attached a photo - but you can only see part of the seat.

Please email me off list to [email protected] with any advice.

Many thanks

Julian

Hi Julian,

I've never seen the Recaro upgrade available as 'electric' but I know that they are indeed adjustable for both fore-aft movement as well as tilt. Very nice seats too by all accounts. Even nicer when trimmed in leather ;-)

Hope this helps.

Thanks guys,

In that case - assuming all electrical connections are still in place, the Recaros could be swapped for standard seats?

The gentleman for whom I'm sourcing this car has a pretty severe request.

Ist choice is 1998 Blue, full cream leather, upgraded brakes, standard 17's.

This IMHO is unobtainable - as the chances of finding a Jap Supra with cream leather post 98 spec is virtually zero!

The second choice is as above with full black leather - again virtually impossible.

By going for RZ over RZ-S - at least the car has rear black leather.

So if anyone knows of black leather front seats / cloth seats that can be retrimmed (any retrimmer contacts would be useful!) - this is the only way I can see him getting choices 1 and 2.

The car itself is a Toyota Dealer car in Tokyo. It has massive Kenwood sound system, only 32000KM (will all be converted etc), UK upped brakes, 18 inch BBS alloys, full RZ spec - but with the Recaro option taken up). Suffice to say the the is MINT.

Regards

Julian

I've got non-leather seats, if there were only two choices between leather and Recaro's then they must be the Recaros, but I don't recall seeing any branding on them. But the driver's side is electrically adjustable for seatback angle and slide. Just to confuse matters.

There are three choices as standard AFAIK, normal cloth, normal leather or Recaro cloth. The Recaros started with the facelift cars, on the RZ. They're quite easy to spot - they have Recaro written on the headrest bit in big letters ...:innocent:

Andrew's electric leather Recaros must be an aftermarket mod I reckon...
