Lbm
Pretty tragic really... Hotel chain reveals most stolen items The Novotel chain put together a top 10 list of their most-stolen items. The most common thing to disappear from their hotel rooms are towels, followed by – perhaps more surprisingly – cushions! Top ten most stolen items from the Novotel chain in full: 1. Towels 2. Cushions 3. Bathrobes 4. TV remote controls 5. Light bulbs 6. Mini-bar contents 7. Clothes hangers 8. Bathroom display trays 9. Coffee sachets 10. Plastic tissue boxes Paws off! Thanks to new technology from the USA, it looks like the number one and number three culprits from the chain's list – towels and bathrobes – could soon be off limits. Washable security tags are to be stitched into the pinchable items which will set off an alarm if anyone tries to leave with them stashed in their suitcase. A hotel in Hawaii has been trialling the thief-busting tech, and towel theft has fallen from 4,000 a month to just 750 since it introduced the tags last summer, saving more than £9,000 a month! http://uk.travel.yahoo.com/p-promo-3361193

The-Plethora
I read a story on another forum I visit that one guy was in a hotel and noticed that the TV was exactly the same as the one he had at home, one that stopped working a week earlier. A quick phone call and his girlfriend turned up...with a suitcase that could comfortably fit a broken TV. Only thing I pilfer are biscuits and the bottled water for my drinks cabinet but then you have paid for those anyway.

Havard
I would love to meet the people who steal the light bulbs:d You may miss them as they scuttle past you in the dark..!! I never take anything from hotels as I don't see the point. They are trying to run a business and do you really need any more towels? I used to nick pint pots from local pubs, especially if they had a nice logo on them. Now I look back and think how pathetic that is. Although I have stopped short of buying them some replacement pint glasses. Maybe I should go back and clear my conscience? H.
sideexitsupra
There is a really cheap and simple way to defeat the electronic security but I couldn't possibly divulge it! It's what I do for a living, most seasoned shop lifters will also know but hope we don't get any of them on here!

Rob
I did that with a lovely gold rimmed Guinness glass. My mum washed it so vigourously, because it was a filthy pub glass that dirty pub people had drunk from, that she wore all the gold and logo off. Poetic justice innit.
