Quick update from Steve who now has a specific page which is = http://snp-styling.yolasite.com/toyota-supra.php

he has added the dimmer knob cover but only as part of a kit with the two heater knob covers so if you want one separate get in touch.

He is also asking for any other things you would like to buy( I have already suggested the rear seat release knob) get in touch with him @ [email protected]

Hi Tee from China,

I'd appreciate it if you could ask your mate Steve to please remove the photo of the aluminium knobs fitted to the dash from his website.

The picture is one I took on my car of the knobs I made back in 2006, I just think it's misleading as it is making it look as though the picture is the ones he is supplying now !

The evidence that it is the same picture is in post #40 of the following thread:

http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?52999-Heater-control-Knobs/page3&highlight=heater+control+knobs

Thanks, Paul

Hi mate, thanks for that and thank Steve, please don't take it the wrong way it's just that mine were slightly different to what he is offering so just wanted our members to be clear on what they are buying. What Steve is producing seems good quality BTW ;)

Tell him i'm up for the rear seat release knob if he does some.

I'm not that impressed to be honest. Machined is a terrible finished article IMO. I was in talks with him over some bespoke work, his replies were ridiculously slow and for my last question I didn't even get one.

If it was Dragons Den I'd be out :D

LOL, sorry but I just enlarged one of the pics on his site and the finish ain't too great is it, bit of chatter and turning marks, maybe something he could look at refining?

To be honest 2 mins with a bit of emery while on the lathe would cure most of the issues.

That's what I produced and the mark you see is my fingerprint. That was done with emery, a wipe, brasso and some damn well elbow grease. It took a bit of time but I made sure members were getting their moneys worth.

The only reason I was wanting in on this was that they were meant to be stainless steel, in order to match the backing etc. Turns out it's not, and not only that the quality is far less than what has been previously offered, from yourself included. If the machine marks were down to it being stainless it could be understood to a degree, it still wouldn't explain why they weren't properly finished though (IMO). I would still have been happy, taken a set and sorted them myself by hand. Unfortunately I'm off the tools now :(

Honestly, if I put out that standard of work where I am I would have been fired.

As you say it's not difficult to finish ali to a nice level, think I brushed the outside on the ones i did (with scotchbrite on the lathe) and then polished the faces.

I ended up making a decent set of stainless steel ones for mine a short while after finishing selling the ali ones, took loads longer to get the finish right but worth it :)

I wish I had thought to make a set of SS ones at the time. The finish you can get on stainless is virtually chrome. Going to that level I would have got them on a small arbour and done on a mop to finish them off properly. The ali I was using was a top grade so it came up great, and as you say easy to work on by hand, not SS great though lol.

The guy isn't the most reliable IMO. He doesn't read emails properly, he takes ages to respond and when he does it's half arsed responses. The last contact I had with him he said they were alloy and not SS so that put me off straight away.

I not 100% sure but any chance you can make them? or am i reading in between threads that give me a impression you know your metal or engineering parts of things:D

stainless steel would be loads better. i have a cnc and manual lathe and mill in my workshop, any chance of a drawing or dimensions you used scott I could just make these myself?

No idea mate, I'm oldschool... I just made it up as I went along lol. Here is a guide though...

Measure the stock heater knob length and outer diameter at the bottom of the knob. If the diameter is .750" make the bore of the knobs 0.745". The overall diameter of the knob should be around .800 IIRC. The length is the length of the knob +.020 for the back end and + around .040 so I would just add 0.060" to whatever the length of the stock knob is. This allows you to radius the corner of the knob to make it appear smaller from the front.

I then used a mill with a very small centre drill to make the notch for the temp knob.

Job done.

That's basically an idiots guide for anyone who knows how to machine something. I could have just put dimensions up, which would have been a normal guide :D

A picture next to a rule is what I often had to go by :D
