AIT probe placement x2

Recommended Posts

I've managed to get as many gauges/sensors as I want fitted to the supra(jspec) I have the option to fit 2 AIT probes and I was considering the benefits of one pre ic and one post, I know that the one nearest the throttle body(or in it) is the only one of any importance, but I'm just interested in how efficiently my fmic is working.

Where would be best to put them, I was thinking that they would be best placed as far away from each other ie: one in the first pipe on the fmic pipework as close to the turbo assembly as possible. but the other I'm not sure about. would there be any real world difference in the temps in the throttle body or alternatively in the last of the intercooler pipework?

Any thoughts?

could you not get an extra sensor and switch so that you could check the air temp going into the turbo and air temp after the turbo then switch to another senor to check the air temp into the engine? or get a double pole switch and four sensors then you check before and after turbo and switch to the other sensor and check before and after the intercooler? just and idea

Believe me, you can have too many guages, been there done that;)

Presumably they are proper thermocouples? otherwise you are wasting your time anyway, and unless you are thinking of replacing your FMIC i wouldn't bother, just place one at or just before the throttle body, or better still spend the money on water injection:)
