AVCR Boost controller -- not reading boost

Recommended Posts

This boost controller is in the car 2 years so fairly new, she was working fine before I stored the car for the winter (dis-connected the battery)

I have a Defi boost guage and the controll running off the same source, mechnically all the sensors look fine and hoses. So I have narrowed it down units setup but a bit confused as everything looks fine(as I had it set before it was put away for the wonter)

The defi reads 1.4 bar and the controller 0.22; is it a common issue with these controllers when you have them disconnected for so long?

do you know what I think it is, the Solenoid. It is set on the most aggresive setting to make the solenoid very intrusive; but you cannot hear it. (Clicking noise)

controler is only 2 years old, I taught you would get longer out of it.

How would I test the solenoid, the controller says it is 90% kicking in on boost but I cannot hear it

Hi if you are making correct boost that you have set in the avcr then it must be getting correct signal just not displaying it. i asked the same question a while back how to test but got no reply

if the solenoid is not working you will over boost loads

mine does stick some times and you noitice straight away as the power is more and you can hear the higher pitch of turbo i had it hit 1.6 at about 5000 rpm lucky i have hybrids that did manage to cope with the second or so of it

from what you are saying i would say it might the digtal boost coverter the bit by the inlet so the controler cant see it making any boost so would actiate the solenoid,

or are you saying the controler is saying on the cycle( not duty) its stating the sloeniod is working at 90% which is very high

With the controller on she is overboosting no matter what duty cycle you choose 1.4/1.5 bar, I think because the solenoid is not working the controller cannot regulate the boost.

I setup the controller to measure all 4 chanels , solenoid was 90% peak it hit on boost, throttle 98%, boost 0.22 and rev looks all good

digtal boost coverter where is that, by the inlet ? sorry I didnt install it so not too familiar

its like a dome shape thing with a couple of wires coming out THIS http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Boost-Pressure-Map-Sensor-Apexi-AVC-R-HKS-EVC-S-Greddy-/120559515132?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item1c11e835fc this is what the boost vac pipe goes to and changes it to a digital signal for the controler to read it normally has a disc like filter on it this must be kept in the upright position,

it might have a split pipe to that

i wouldnt say solenoid just yet you have to get it to display boost correctly before you can say its that as the controler cant see it making boost so is trying to make it

Got you , know exactly what it is . I agree about the solenoid may not be doing its job becasue it thinks it is not seeing boost.

When you say upright position, will sound stupid but what position is that

has the speed sensor ever worked?

has it ever worked and made boost correctly?

i cant see the speed signal having a affect but will with the gear judge when setting up

Not sure about the speed sensor

It did make boost correctly before winter

Gear judge did read correctly before but now only 255 in all gears (255 is the correct reading for when you are static)Speed sensor I presume here

I also noticed the pressure sensor is mounted incorrectly so will mount it in the upright position ; hopefully will fix the issue plus if it is stuck (the solenoid after the cold winter) I read stray WD40 into it?

i wd 40 mine nothing wrong with abit of lub :D disconect vac pipes first as you dont want to hydrolock the system

the reason the egear judge might not be working is because you have re set it and have lost all settings,

you wont be able to set up the gear judge correctly with out the speed sensor attached,

i can tell you my settings if you have the same spec

i have

jspec tt auto with lsd

if it is different to that then it would be close but not quiet right

i would check all boost vac pipes the way yours is run seems a long travel it has to do, so could well be there some where.

you need to check all boost to the avcr could even be the plug to the boost sensor or the solenoid when mine played up i unplugged conectors and reconected and has not done it in ages

Thanks, my gear judge is set from last time I configured it via the speed sensor ; I did try to reset the unit but for some reason the unit will not reset??? But when I tried to re-do the gear judge (even though it had the previous settings) i cannot get a reading, constant 255.

Also on a side note , I am getting code 42 thrown but I took out the dash cluster 2 weeks ago to upgrade to LED lights; the speedo is like a rev counter since. I did pull it apart but could not see anything wrong (cluster or Loom Pins). I just presumed because I disturbed the speedo and it only happened after; it is the loom on the speedo.

But after we have identified the speed sensor on the AVCR is not reading maybe it is something ECU related? I will rip out the ECU and check it, but last time I checked they where all soldered into the loom so highly unlikely it came loose; maybe it is the ECU circuit speed sensor(I presume it has one)

Next steps

  1. Re-position the Pressure sensor closer to the vac lines in the upright position
  2. Lube up the solenoid
  3. Take out ECU and check loom connection with AVCR and Speed Sensor
