Oil change - Engine Flush Treatment.

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Got myself booked in tomorrow to do an oil change on the soop. I have also got some Pre-Oil Change treatment (Engine Flush). Just wondering if others use an engine flush before a change and is it OK, as someone heard that it not recommended ti use this engine flush stuff.

Any views? I have always used engine flush before changes on others cars and never had a problem.

:thanks:

As I understand it Rob, you don't want to loosen that stuff because, as you say, it may not come out with the oil. The fact you have loosened it might mean it actually comes off in a weeks time or whatever. You really don't want that crap floating about and blocking up oilways or getting into bearings.

As for Fuel injector treatments, I believe they don't do any harm but often are ineffectual.

Octane boosters are mega-expensive for what they are. They give a tiny octane hike. Something 0.1 RON is the norm, although the deliberately misleading wording on the bottle will make it sound like you're gaining 1.0 RON.

I would not of thought you would have any big bits to worry about, as with the hot oil, the sludge etc should come out with the flow of oil.

Surely the flush does alot of good by cleaning out the oil carry pipes to engine internals and the turbos. Therefore making the internal flow of the pipes better, increasing effenciency of the oil?

Just my thought on it..

Any other views?

the main problem with engine flush is that when you drain the oil out there is always some oil still left in the engine (i.e oil gallerys) and engine flush does not have the same lubrication qualitys as engine oil. so you run the risk of internal damage due to the flushing oil still in system. best way is to flush the system using same grade oil. but can get bit expensive.

I put 625k miles on my last 2.4 honda accord (taxi) always put a flush in either Wynns or half liter of kerosene, just before oil change, after changing the oil for 1st few hundred miles could barely get a reading on dip stick it was so clean, 5w 40 shell ultra. A flush imo wont do any harm to a clean reg oil changed engine, however a engine full sludge that could be different story.

I've replaced using fresh cheaper oil in the past. Run it for ten minutes then drained.

Then filled up with the new desired oil.

It's much safer than a flush and gives the same benefits. Thougu I didnt see the point everytime.
