can our MKIV Supra TT runs on RON95 fuel?

have been using RON97 (MYR2.70 per litre) all these while but with the ever increasing fuel price globally, it makes more sense to use the much cheaper RON95 (MYR1.90 per litre) if it won't cause any side effects to our ingenius powerplant.

 

would like to hear comments from you guys, thanks!

I ran my BPU J-Spec TT on 95 for about a year to save money, but eventually it developed a flat spot in the transition between turbo 1 and 2, which felt really odd.

 

I don't know if it's harmful, but since going back to Tesco 99 it's been fine.

 

I'd only say use it if you can't get better, or aren't blitzing it all the time.

Couple of thoughts.

 

With regard to JDM Supra being mapped to 98 ron did the Japanese even have 98ron back in the mid 90s?

 

Doesn't the Japanese ron work out to be 3-4 points lower when converted to UK ron? It'd be about 95 ron if so.

Well I hear regular is 90ron here..not sure though..

 

The Hi Octane is 100ron, and my Supra says PRemium in the fuel flap.. So I think safer to stick to hi octane..

I ran my NA on standard 95 RON for the last 3 years but occasionally put 97 in, mostly when doing the bigger meets etc. (The NA's need all the help they can get! :innocent:). Since buying my BPU 6 speed I've been running it on 97/98 RON just to be safe, might try a half tank of 95 just to see if there is a noticeable difference

wont make a difference for na or off boost driving , the higher octane just means its more resistant to det, ( pre ignition) and will offer a cooler burn , all good things when on boost , but for tootling around off boost no difference. but imho if you want to drive a high powerd forced induction car you put the highest available ron in and dont complain. otherwise buy a diesel and enjoy you 40 mpg.

If the ECU is self learning using knock sensors and ignition advance maps, it will make a difference when off boost - that's why NA cars get a benefit from higher octane fuel as well. The ECU advances ignition until it detects knock and then backs off. More ignition advance = more power.

on something with sky high compression id agree, but the na engines compression is not too high so i see no risc of det at 12dbtc at atmospheric pressure, but i know what your saying, on the ferrari 360 the ecu advances timeing when on better fuel. but personally i never found a differance with my na on the 2 fuels

If you put £45 of V-power in and £35 of normal it will be around 97 oct anyway and a little cheaper to run i guess.

 

Thats how I do it anyway.
