Installling Oil Temp/Pressure & Diff Temp Sensors

Wez

Recommended Posts

Hey All,

I want to install my engine oil temp & pressure sensors along with a diff oil temp sensor, I already have the temp sensors which are Bosch with an overall length of 57mm, and a fitting thread of M12 x 1.5mm pitch.

Oil Temp Sensor

Are there sump plug and diff drain plug adapters available that will accept these?

The oil pressure sensor I am looking at has a 1/8" BSP male thread, will the lexus union bolt (90401-19008) be OK with this sensor?

Oil/Fuel Pressure Sensor

Thanks

I've found the sump plug thread size, it's M12 x 1.25, Toyota part number for the plug is 90341-12012.

Looks like my temp sensors are larger than normal, I am guessing I will have to drill and tap the sump elsewhere :(

Just found out that the diff drain/fill plugs uses a 10mm hex head, guess I need to purchase one tomorrow.

I do an adaptor to put an M10 x 1.00 sensor in the stock sump plug hole. Not sure what the thread size is on the axle casing plug. The UK models have a temp *SWITCH* in the diff case cover, maybe you could use that cover and find a suitable sensor? I do oil filter elbow bolts drilled and tapped for a pressure take off fitting.

Hi Wez,

Oddly enough I'm doing exactly the same thing! I've taken an old sump bolt that I've got and drilled and tapped it 1/8 BSP. Admittedly it doesn't leave a vast amount of meat on the M12 bolt, but there is enough.

I've then bought this oil sensor http://www.efi-parts.co.uk/index.php?productID=125 that will fit right in. The only downside is that the sensor is going to be hanging fairly low. I'm a little concerned that it'll get clouted, but I'll wait till it's fitted and make a judgement call.

Don't worry about it Tony, it will be fine. That's where mine has been for ages. I bought an adaptor rather than drilling my sump plug though, plenty around to go from M12 to 1/8 NPT. Good find on the sensor, mine is the one that came with the SPA oil temp gauge I used to have and have now taken out - looks very similar.

Sadly I already have the temp sensors as I ordered them when I got my Datalogger :(

Would the UK cover work with the smaller casing?

How much for an elbow bolt shipped Chris and could you make the thread 1/8 BSP?

i just purchased an sump plug adapter,

its made of solid brass, and is quite cylinder like shaped, so when you tighten the sensor in, it doesnt risk crakking the bolt part which goes to the sump

doesnt look like the pic,

as for the oil pressure sensor, i just put mine where the stock one is (this does involve removing the Air con so not the easiest option lol)

just get either a lexus bolt or a sarny plate :)

Wez, I was looking at doing the same , did you get the Lexus Union bolt in the end?

I want to remove the Relocation kit and install the Oil filter back on the Block as per OEM , I will loose my pressure 1/8NTP port

Was thinking of getting a Lexus Union Bolt , not too sure of the male port on this ? 90401-19008 Union Bolt

Q: I want to install a faster acting Air temp sensor , and Fuel Temp sensor

I have a few options

Air

1) Delco 3/8NTP

2) Bosch M12X1.5

Fluid:

1) Bosch M10 X1

Question

What is the OEM port spec on the intake for the Air sensor? M12X1.5 hopefully?

I have two possible locations for the Air sensor, I have provision for a 3/8 NTP port in the Throttle body or the OEM location; what is best?

Fuel temp sensor I was thinking of running in the return line , or somewhere off the regulator , Regulator is a Bosch Motorsports with AN6 fitting , M14X1.5 to 1/8 NTP port (Fuel pressure uses) , Return is a AN6 ; any suggestions how to fit an M10 X1 sensor ; probe on the sensor looks to protrude enough to prevent me using an adapter?

I think I need , AN -6 (AN6) Male- Female Union 1/8" NPT Side Port and a M10X1 female TO 1/8" NPTF Male
