I also have this on my passenger side, I was under the impression that the door has sagged or the skirt has been pushed upward. (There is a crack under the skirt indicating bad jacking or bump from underneath) There should be a gap. The door has been scraping down to the bare metal hence the rust. This is on my list of things to do.

I would get the door or the skirt adjusted Lude or it'll be the same again later down the line. Try some t-cut or other polish on the skirt.

Eucalyptus oil.. I use it to remove tar from the paintwork/alloy wheels, should work fine to remove the rust mark...

Try it on a small section before you do the entire skirt though..

After that, use a very mild solution of APC to wash the oil off, a bit of polish and should be good as new..

The REAL issue is the skirts reduce the door lower edge gap to zero and then rub through the paint on the lower edge of the door and start rust forming. Another reason a skirtless MKIV is the thinking man's choice ;)

Exactly that. My skirts barely leave any gap whatsoever. I'm not a thinking kinda person.:(

so its the skirts at fault then,

mine are quite badly cracked etc so imagine they have been pushed up.

will try the above solutions to remove the mark.

i have applied hamerite to the underside of the door witha very small brush (is only 1mm of rust on them, but want to treat to stop spreading)
