Rookey
Has anyone else had thus problem with an aerotop? I picked mine up a few days back, absolutely mint, and I was enjoying the drive today with the roof off, when I heard a huge crack! Pulled over, and it turns out that when I went over a 'tiny' divot in the road, the car's flexed and one of the hinges that holds the boot to the car has snapped clean in half... Looks like a pretty straight forward fix, but I'm curious if it's a regular problem with all aerotops because of the car flex? Cheers Dave
The Raven
In a word No. It snapped a boot hinge? Pics?
Rookey
I'll take one when I get home... For now I've secured the boot and put the roof back in for sturdiness, but yeh it's one of the two boot hinges! Dave

Ian R
Doesn't sound right to me at all. Flex tends to be around the scuttle area if anywhere. Never heard of this happening with aero's before
DaveR
That sounds worrying...
Aero-M
Sounds worrying to me, mine flex's but never to the extent of that. I assume you checked it all out for accident damage before you brought it?
Rookey
Yeh, all checked out fine... Even got the car up on ramps before buying and looked clean as a whistle underneath. No signs of even a tiny knock, no additional welding etc, all in all it's a really good example just a very odd occurrence. Any ideas what could cause it then? I'm a little worried now!! scotty71
Any ideas what could cause it then? I'm a little worried now!! accident damage?? Some owners may repair themselves thus not report any accident history. I have heard people have done this.
Rookey
Nope, not that I can see anyway and I went into quite a lot of checks with the car... When I had it up on the ramps I checked all over, and all the hidden places and it looked really good! No signs of any accident or knock. KamaSupra
I haven't had this problem either, definetly get up some pics of the damage... Maybe some of your car too
Supra Gaz
That sounds quite worrying, some pics of the damage and the surrounding area will help. i cant imagine what it could be other than repaired crash damage....
Rookey
Right I've managed to look at it in more depth, and it's just where the hinge has had stress put on it... So I'm ordering a new hinge tomorrow from Toyota! It seems to be a rare problem, but a couple of other aero owners I've spoken to have had it before as well so I'm not so nervous about it now. I'll still get pictures up soon though Dave
mr lover
I have had 2 aerotops over the last 6 years never had anything like that, I would be a little concerned that there maybe a underlying problem
Guest ugp
I've seen it before, my friend bust a hinge, after launching the car over a bridge though.
