ellis
I would think Mr Wilson would have an idea on cost but I would estimate 'expensive'!

Chris Wilson
Getrag gearbox internal bits are very costly, and you need a lot of special tools to safely dismantle and rebuild them. I do the odd manual road car box for myself, but it's only when a good used one is hard to find, and the car is worth it. Race boxes are just so much better and easier to work on I try to avoid synchromesh boxes where possible. Here's a link to a pdf showing the disassembly and rebuild for a five speed Nissan box, which is very similar to the 5 speed Toyota one, and both are a lot simpler and easier to work on than the six speed Getrags. Note the number of special tools, and the sheer number of components that can and do wear. http://www.chriswilson.tv/manualtransmission.pdf
