Sony has posted another update on the PlayStation blog regarding when PSN is coming back online. The company had previously promised core services were coming back this week, but as we (and many others) guessed yesterday, this isn’t going to happen.Patrick Seybold, Senior Director, Corporate Communications & Social Media, wrote: “When we held the press conference in Japan last week, based on what we knew, we expected to have the services online within a week. We were unaware of the extent of the attack on Sony Online Entertainment servers, and we are taking this opportunity to conduct further testing of the incredibly complex system.”He stressed that confirming the security of the network was vital, and “additional comprehensive system checks” were still required. The post ended with no firm ETA once again, just an apology and a note that Sony is doing everything it can. We’d imagine the network will definitely be up and running at some stage next week. Probably.PSN has been down for almost three weeks, coming on for a month, now. That’s a lot of unhappy Mortal Kombat, Portal 2 and SOCOM PS3 players who haven’t been able to try their games online yet.

3 weeks and counting - bit of a disgrace regardless on how bad the attack was.

Wonder if heads will roll.

In another difficult weekend for Sony, the company has admitted that the PlayStation Network is likely to remain switched off for several more days. It has also been forced to take action after another security breach, which saw the stolen details of 2,500 sweepstakes contestants being published on a website. In a message posted on the Sony blog on Saturday, the company stated:We're still working to confirm the security of the network infrastructure, as well as working with a variety of outside entities to confirm with them of the security of the system. Verifying the system security is vital for the process of restoration. Additional comprehensive system checks and testing are still required, and we must complete that process before bringing the systems online.PlayStation Network is the online service that lets console users take part in mutltiplayer games, as well as chat and download videos. Two weeks ago, Sony discovered that hackers had infiltrated one of the network's backend servers, potentially gaining access to the credit card details of 77 million users. At a press event in Tokyo last week, Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Kaz Hirai promised that the service would be online within six days. However, in the latest blog message, Nick Caplin, the head of communications at Sony Computer Entertainment Europe wrote, "when we held the press conference in Japan last week, based on what we knew, we expected to have the services online within a week. We were unaware of the extent of the attack on Sony Online Entertainment servers, and we are taking this opportunity to conduct further testing of the incredibly complex system."Also on Saturday, Reuters reported that hackers had accessed the names and partial addresses of 2500 people who entered a Sony sweepstake in 2001. When the details were discovered, Sony shutdown the website where they had been posted. "The website was out of date and inactive when discovered as part of the continued attacks on Sony," the company stated. The combined news of the delay and anoth

I just did the same! Was jumping up and down thinking it was back again too! :( But says its update 2.61, i'm sure thats already the latest one? Then the thoughts of was it an attack from whoever hacked PSN to then get into our PS3 went through my head!

Nope, 3.61 is the official update as far as i can tell. Hopefully, PSN will switch the UK networks on sometime soon then. You'll need to change your password then use it to log in, then you should be good to go :)

So that means I've got to try remember my password now. Hope I get more than a couple of attempts!

The PlayStation Network is coming back online today. However, it will not be fully functioning until the end of the month. That’s according to a new statement from Sony, who announced that restoration of the PSN and Qriosity services would begin today in phased stages. This will occur on a country-by-country basis across the Americas, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and Middle East.According to the statements, the first phase of restored services for these countries and regions will include:Sign-in for PlayStation Network and Qriocity services, including the resetting of passwords Restoration of online game-play across PS3 and PSP Playback rental video content, if within rental period, of PlayStation Network Video Delivery Service on PS3, PSP and MediaGo Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity, for current subscribers, on PS3 and PC Access to 3rd party services such as Netflix, Hulu, Vudu and MLB.tv ‘Friends’ category on PS3, including Friends List, Chat Functionality, Trophy Comparison, etc PlayStation Home Sony have also promised new security measures in order to safeguard the PSN against further attacks, with stronger encryption, more firewalls, and better vulnerability testing using third-party security companies. While that’s good news for PS3 fans, not least some of the rather rabid commentators who flooded to TW when the PSN network was down, there is still little news on what may or may not have been compromised in the original attack. While the word on the web is that credit card companies have not yet seen any malicious activity they can tie to the PlayStation Network hack attack, Sony does not seem entirely sure about what exact data has been stolen, which remains a little worrying.Additionally, while no doubt there will be cheers that the process of recovering the PSN has begun today, do not expect it to be running with full functionality. That means prepare for disappointment if you’re looking to log on for Black Ops today, because Sony have made it clear the restoration process is going to last through unti
