Have to love the lack of understanding going on here. Wikileaks? What are you on about?

Also, Sony may have just released the information but it has been common knowledge for a few days now. Weeks if you include the first reign of attacks. There is a thread about it on this very forum mentioning what was going on and showing links to it.

So yes.... repost and no, nothing to do with wikianything.

Yes, got to love your lack of understanding. Sony released news on google that is was 3 realms, a free play game that brought the site down, they have only today anounced officialy that it was indeed hackers and not the game. And that they believe it is the same hackers behind the visa and paypal hack. And they're doing it because of the arrest of the owner of wili leaks, due to classifies documents, and as PETE states bellow, these guys have threatened to bring down the network before, there's even a nice link if your bored. Sorry if I am wrong mr scott but I'm only going off info on google so if you have anything you would like to share then please do.

Lol, i seriously doubt anonymous did it, 4 chan are gamers themselves.

I would suggest it is sonys $#@!up - and they are using it as a cover up.

4chan- some men just want to watch the world burn ;)

although i'm surprised at the lack of threads about it on there.

I thought they were doing it because they were suing George Hotz, some other hackers and were requesting the IP of EVERYONE who ever visited the GeoHotz blog not to mention other things.

Personally I can't blame Sony for being upset, GeoHotz it an arrogant (but very talented) child whose exploit jailbroke the PS3 for the first time and led the way to piracy. The more concerning point about all this is how a bunch of hackers can decide to try to destroy a corporations network like Sony. It goes to show how vulnerable 99% of businesses are online.

Anybody remotely interested knows where to look bud, it has been common knowledge on the non-button bashing PS3 community for ages.... as I said and hence the previous threads already made on the forum.

Sony love their smoke screens, as do all companies when security comes into question. There comes a point when it cannot be denied which is why they have given up and been honest about the goings on.

It's got feck all to do with wikileaks. I still have no idea what you are on about there. The anonymous cause is down to the "Other OS" drop, as is all the other people mentioned (geohot etc). If you want to know anything about it simply check out ANY ps3 scene website.

If all you are interested in is the network being up and running then it's probably best not to go off what the first hit on google says ;)

No, as I said it all came about over the Other OS drop. It pee'd off a LOT of PS3 owners, including these very guys mentioned. That was the catalyst for them getting the finger out to crack the PS3, they wanted the freedom of Other OS on the system again. As soon as they cracked it the doors were open for virtually everything, at which point Sony realised the extent of what was going on. Sony decided to try to take out all the guys involved, even though they were doing it for innocent reasons, and tried to hit them with every legal injunction under the sun. Of course this has been fought, and brought about a backlash from the PS3 homebrew development community, who all believe in freedom of technology etc.

Everything that has happened other than that, regarding hacking the PS3 and being able to play backups etc are just by-products of the aim to get the "Other OS" option back. Clever guys got the backups etc working, but much much cleverer guys opened up the door in order to make this possible... at the same time as dealing a HUGE blow to the security of basically all current Sony gaming system software/hardware.

PS3 users have been left despairing as PSN reaches its fourth day out of action. With no solid news about how long the network will be out, Sony originally claimed it was down for 'maintenance', but have announced on their Official Blog that they are totally rebuilding the system and 'decided it was worth the time necessary to provide the system with additional security', implying that its down-time may have been the result of some outside help. Now being reported as a global problem, the service first went down in the UK on Thursday. Sony have apologised and thanked fans for their patience, but after four days, patience is wearing thin. Users are particularly annoyed about their inability to access multiplayer games and third party paid-for services like Lovefilm."An external intrusion on our system has affected our PlayStation Network and Qriocity services," Sony said, "In order to conduct a thorough investigation and to verify the smooth and secure operation of our network services going forward, we turned off PlayStation Network & Qriocity services on the evening of Wednesday, April 20th. Providing quality entertainment services to our customers and partners is our utmost priority.
