Swampy442
Took the engine out of the Aristo today and both mounts were totally fecked. How do you get them off the subframe? TIA
Swampy442
Lee? Keron? Anyone?
mwilkinson
Hmmm they are very much FUBAR. Start with the obvious but have you undone the bolts holding the lower part of the mount to the subframe. Will need to do this from underneath the car?
Swampy442
Theres no access to the underside of the mount, the subframe is solid. I was thinking maybe they screw into the frame?
Morpheus
Check this out? http://www.jzs147.com.au/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1420 I just searched 'Aristo engine mount removal' in Yahoo. They obviously bolt on from underneath but access may be from the end if the crossmember lifts out? Didn't seem to be an issue for the above guys though. If all else fails, just get a Starret holesaw about an inch diameter and drill a hole through the crossmember floor! Obviously you'll want to seal the holes when you're finished with flush rubber plugs. Are you SURE they aren't plugged already? Seems awfully shortsighted of Toyota to weld the crossmember in and give no access to the nuts. mwilkinson
Defo not screw in. I've been on the net having a search. Can't find anything decisive but quite a few people have replaced these with supra mounts and talk about bolting them in. It must be bolted to the subframe. Is there a section that needs to be removed to allow access? Im hopping someone with some knowledge might come and help you with this. Swampy442
Its alright, sortednow. Under 19 years of sticky old oil and crap were 2 plastic plugs that give you access to the nuts. Cheers for the input
