Creaking/squeaking coming from gearstick area

This started about 2 weeks ago.

I can hear a creaking or squeaking noise coming from the gearstick area when driving and no matter what I do, it doesn't stop.

It seems to happen when the gearstick is moving a bit (when going over bumps or undulating surfaces) and it happens when the car is hot and cold, it doesn't seem to make a difference.

It's not the leather gaitor doing it as I've held that still and I've also removed the panel so just the rubber around the stick is shown and I can move that around with my hand and it doesn't make the same noise as the one that happens when I'm in gear and driving.

I've driven the car with the radio off most of the time since owning it so I know it's only recently started.

Can anyone help as I want to make sure it's nothing serious/gearbox related?

Thanks in advance,

Josh.

Anyone had/heard of this before? Just want to make sure it's not a serious issue and something knackered in the gearbox wouldn't be causing it.

I'll try and get the missus to film the gearstick when I'm driving so you can hear the noise.

I can pretty much guarantee its not a knackered gearbox dude, just the shift lever. Take the gaitor off, see if you can pinpoint it.

Thanks :)

I've seen some of power going through the V160 and thought "there's no way it can be damaged/broken". I'll take the panel with the gaiter off and see if I can see/hear/feel where it's coming from.

i have a creaking noise just developed on moving off best way to describe it is like a deeper version of a horror film door opening ive also been told it could be the thrust bearing which is pretty gutting as this clutch has only been in about 2-3 month mine only makes the noise moving off and occasionally after changing gear on the release of the clutch

its not a constant noise
