tDR
Just found this http://www.driftworks.com/forum/fc-tuning/101095-steves-spark-plug-information-guide.html and the guy is claiming credit, his post is only 4 years after Alex posted the original in 2005. It is just a cut and paste from here. Well spotted Phil - I've had an account over on DW for years so have posted about it. Cheers, Brian. Eddie-S
Hi, I used your excellent guide when ordering some new plugs for my NA. My brother gets a discount at the local auto factor so he went to get the parts for me - I gave him a couple to choose from in case they didn't have a specific one in stock and he came back with a different one altogether. The man in the autofactors' said he had checked and they were the correct ones. They are NGK Laser Platinum BKR6 EKPB-11. I have checked in the NGK website and they only list officially imported cars so I used the Lexus 300 that uses the JZGE engine and it came up with the same BKR5EP for cars upto 97 and the BKR6 (above) for 97 -00. My car is a Dec 97 registered (in Japan). So. After all that is the plug OK to use or do I need to swap them for one of the ones listed in the thread?? Your help much appreciated. ellis
Handy stuff - just ordered 6 x NGK BKR6EIX-11 (3764) for the overhaul - £45 with VAT and delivery which I thought was reasonable.
Attero
The sparksplugs website is telling me to go for Denso IK20 (£40.56 + VAT), but that wasn't in your plug list for the N/A. Considering Toyota wants to charge me £80 for the set... So I think that's pretty good for £40, but am I looking at the right thing? Dnk
Get the NGK BKR5EIX from http://www.sparkplugs.co.uk £5.90 each
Attero
I can't find any NGK spark plugs for the N/A on that site. It doesn't even recognize NGK BKR5EIX.
Attero
Get the NGK BKR5EIX from http://www.sparkplugs.co.uk £5.90 each TT plugs have a similar BKR6EIX-11 (£5.90 each). But would they even work with an N/A?
Dnk
It did about 5 mins ago Scroll down the home page about halfway and on the left hand side you'll see the part search box, just type in BKR5EIX and it pops open a new page with that plug and price details. t-one234
is the gap on OEM plugs for the NA 1.1? as the gap guide on page 1 only seems to cater for iridiums and non oem plugs

Dnk
I used ngk before but had to take them out and put Denso ik22 back in She did not like the ngk at all Unless the gap or grade was totally wrong on the NGKs i don't see how it makes a difference. Alex
Unless the gap or grade was totally wrong on the NGKs i don't see how it makes a difference. Agreed - maybe one was faulty or the coil was making a bad connection with the *shape* of the NGK connector (as they differ slightly). AJI
Just to confirm, for a TT BPU these plugs are correct? NGK BKR7EIX Read through this thread and its a good read, but just wanted to confirm as quoted above.... in case a new range of spark plugs had entered the market since when the thread was created... many moons ago. I'm currently on Denso IK24 and looking to change on my BPU TT6 uk-spec..... I read that NGK are more reliable (although never had an issue with the IK24s in the past), but want to now change to NGKs to give them a go. From what I read in this thread the IK24s are equivalent to NGK BKR8E ? But that the BKR8E are no longer made? So if I were to want NGKs fitted I'd have to go with the BKR7E plugs which are slightly 'hotter'. I don't wish for my engine to run any hotter than it should do, so maybe I should stick to the IK24s after all?
Alex
Yes the 24 is the same as an 8 on the NGK scale. I see what you're saying about the discontinuing the standard plugs...looks like they are pushing the 8/9/10 heat ranges into their Racing catalogue such as R5672A-8 (this appears to be the replacement for the BKRE8E's (but I've not bought and tested that). So, IK = Iridium so if you want Iridium NGK then BKR8EIX's are still listed places like here - http://www.camskill.co.uk/m18b0s1232p58833/NGK_SPARK_PLUGS_NGK_IRIDIUM_SPARK_PLUGS_-_BKR8EIX_-_2668_ As for the Hotter/Colder Plugs. It's not about the "heat" in the engine it's more about the pressure and spark ability whilst under peak load. A colder plug will not work so well (ironically) on a cold start. But will handle extreme boost for longer that a warmer one. It's a sliding scale of trade off. If you use 7's/22's and never experience hesitation on full boost then you don't need 8's. But if you did then it would be worth the upgrade...
