BRAKE advice

V

Recommended Posts

Given up on trying to find a UK manual TT, so now approached the importers to find me one, BUT will probably end up with the Jap brake setup with thimble sized 2 pots and 295 discs.

(looking for a VVTi facelift)

Any advice on:

1. UK 6pots with 320mm disc.

2. Cost.

3. Performance/longevity.

4. Pad options.

5. Any options on the rears.

Went to the motorsport show (not fantastic, but ok - dont do the show, only if you want to Jo Guest :flame Dev 1/2 a mile away), and picked a load of brake companies details up. was looking at:

6. AP 6pots with 356mm grooved discs £1500:(rrp - complete kit)

7. Rear replacements.

Any thoughts pro/cons? are the AP's an over kill, especially given the price?

They will get very hard road use.

Wheels will be 18" - still looking around.

Anything would much appreciated.:)

:stupid:

Thought the uk front brakes were 4 pots.

AP six pots if youve got the dosh have got to be the way to go.

Dont forget if your buying 18" wheels make sure that they will go over the UK or AP brakes.

The stock uk brakes are exellant IMO only lose out when doing track days but that can be sorted with different pads and some higher spec brake fluid and maybe different brake discs.

Not sure what would be the best route on the rears though, do AP make a suitable rear brake upgrade ? Maybe AP's on the front and UK rears on the back ?

Its really a matter of how much you want to spend.

You won't really beat the AP kit.

They are industry leaders. An AP kit with Pagid R4-2 (or 4-2-1) pads should stop you. To keep everything balanced you would ideally want UK rears and a Bias control.

Chris Wilson is the brake and suspension "guru"

If you are not looking for the "ultimate" and just want to stop effectively and do some track work then the UK's all round will do the job very very well. Its mainly down to pad choice.
