Spedo not working -- idea's

I took the dash out to replace the MIL light Bulb, put it back together and the Spedo is not working. I took it appart again, re-tested amd the spedo is working on a short drive.

I put the remainder of the dash back together and now the spedo is not working again.

The solders on the unit look fine, what you guys think; re-Solder ?

Is your ODO linked to the Spedo? Since it stopped working the ODO stopped incrementing/Trip computer

Where do you get those Tosiba V2 Bulbs, plus the large 3W bulbs with a Green film over them , I presume the 3W illumate the clusters (spedo, RPM, Fuel,Water Temp) so if I want white I just replace the three bulbs?

my speedo is not working but my odo is?

That's quite unusual. Probably a fault with or near the speedo needle.

i had something similar when i done mine a couple of weeks back, found to be a bad connection on the od that link in the mile converter i just stripped out the old connection and re done it with solder in the wire

Did that fix a faulty speedo? I'm surprised, but if you say it did then fair enough. Possible especially if the loom has been cut and spliced a bit, and has an ususual DSC fitted.

OP: I'd guess dry solder joints on the speedo's circuit board.

PS "speedo" not "spedo" :). Someone having the same problem as you might not find this thread unless they search for "spedo" which is unlikely.

my speedo was still working but my apexi avcr displayed no speed which comes from the ecu signal, im not sure how its all wired in but thats what happpened striaght up guv !

Ah that makes more sense! Anything non-standard or unusual and the usual guidelines tend to go out the window. :)

What do peolpe think, its the loom or the speedo cluster?

Is it possible to test the Cluster (speedo, rpm etc..) if I disconnect it from the car?

I still say dodgy connection from when it was all disturbed. You can test the speedo.. Is you have a frequency generator ;) - which i have ;) if you want send it to me and I'll test it....

Thanks for the help ; I would but I am in Ireland, dont want to take the chance wit it getting lost. Last resort I will though ;) When you say dodgy connection; you thinking the loom or the Cluster unit?

Colin in SSI Cleaned up the Spedo sensor (gearbox area), spedo worked again until it got some heat in it. It seems to com on and off intermittent.

What do you guys reckon spedo Sensor, I want to read the three magic words "easy cheap fix",?

Code 42 is showing up --Starter Signal Circuit

Heres my ECU

Stock ECU and SARD Analyse ROM

Analyse

Analyse is an ECU set to provide alteration of high boost & rev control at high speed driving, and provides accurate engine control in various conditions, such as partial range, street driving, and engine idling.

Resetting items of Analyse:

*Fuel map resetting.

*Ignition map resetting.

*Rev limiter resetting.

*Speed limiter cancellation.

*Boost limiter cancellation.

it does sound like dodgy wiring, i think if i was you i would diconect the analyse rom thing and reconeect it all. make sure there are now scotch locked connections, not the loom to have the problem but how the add ons are conected into that loom.

Dont want to disconnect items I did not touch, think I will focus on the loom connections around the dash

It'll probably either be a faulty speed sensor itself (unlikely), broken speedo cluster (possible) or flaky wiring between the speed sensor and speedo (most likely).

Only poking around and re-making any joints that carry the signal from sensor to speedo will tell which of those it is.
