jackso11
Just got some alpine type-r spears to fit in the back as I did in my last supra and discovered this supra (GZ) has rear speaker pods that my last sup didn't. These pods also mean the depth of speaker is less and my new type-r's don't fit. Has anyone taken these pods out? If I take mine out will there be the original metal bracket behind it I can use? or is that missing and will I need to fabricate something to get these speakers to fit? Kirk
You either have the boxes or the standard metal brackets so you would need standard mounts .
jackso11
ahh. Better go to the wanted section then, I need some standard mounts. Will I be able to fit metal mounts? or are they a part of the car that was not welded into the GZ?

AlexM
Most people want the pods rather than the brackets, they are rather rare. Wouldn't some slimmer speakers be a better option?
dandan
Yes you ought to swap out your speakers and keep the pods.
jackso11
really? what what would you recommend that fits? Does anyone know the max depth? To be honest, I didn't have them in my last sup and the sound was amazing from type-r speakers....does this little pod really make a difference? I would have thoguht the pod is only good for standard speakers as you need to calculate the dimensions of box for each specific speaker power output, size, depth, etc.... is that not right? jackso11
Had a chat to the guys at caraudiosecurity, they say you noticably lose sound quality by going for a shallow mount speaker so switching to a shallow mount just to keep the pods seems like a backward step. Although the enclosure will make the shallow mount speaker sound better than if it were mounted without the pod the alpine type-r speaker will produce a far better sound than any shallow mount with or without a pod. Just thought I would update for future searchers! Edited April 18, 2011 by jackso11 (see edit history)
