Chris Wilson
Has anyone got a rough idea how much it should cost to supply and fit a replacement gas central heating boiler for a three bed terraced hose? The old boiler has failed the inspection. It's outside in a box on an outside wall. What is the most basic boiler available, and do you HAVE to have a combi bolier, and do you HAVE to have a condensing boiler? Would it be legal to fit a used boiler? property is rented out to a tenant. Thanks.
Havard
Chris, If you are getting a new boiler pm me and I will ring you. My business partner has a boiler spares business and I can get new boilers at almost cost. Is the current boiler a combi? If you are buying a new boiler it would HAVE to be condensing. As far as I am aware there is no law against fitting a second hand boiler. For a cost estimate I would be surprised if you get any change form a grand ie £600 boiler and £400 labour but I could be wrong. H.
imi
I ended up paying 3000 in total fr a new boiler, radiator valves and fitting. Edit: I ended up going for a Worcester bosch. In hindsight I should have just gone with British Gas, for all their failings they are still the best of the worst. Rest I found were cowboys
The Raven
I was quoted 3k to fit a fulll heating system to my rental thats running on a warm air system. I would bite the bullet and fit a new combi, new laws are being passed that will force landlords to fit engery saving messures, not sure if this will include boilers yet. Heating break downs are a PITA.
Supranature
Sounds like you have a gravity-fed boiler system. If there is a header tank in the loft and a seperate hot water cylinder then it is. You dont NEED to have a combi, but to change to a combi from a gravity would be expensive. However, a gravity boiler is usually a few quid dearer than a combi, £550 upwards. Fitting the replacement varies on location, here in Liverpool it can be done for a few hundred £...... depends who you know, etc. Dont expect any change from a grand. (total) Gravity fed systems are generally accepted to be a "better" system, and it HAS to be a condenser. A qualified plumber would be reluctant to fit a 2nd hand boiler, and no way if it was not a condenser. Remember, they have to certify it. Dnk
I agree there are lots of cowboys out there but i'd never go with British Gas, i've had ridiculous quotes off them on 2 jobs that were almost double what i paid in the end. You do need to find the right fitters though as in most trades theres good and bad

Dnk
I had a 2 bed flat modernised with a Worcester Bosh (junior) condensing boiler, 6 new rads inc pipework, also remove exsisting tank etc for £2200. A local certified fitter did the job and i had no problems with his work what so ever. However the W/B boiler needed a new control unit after only 3 weeks. If you do have a condensing boiler Chris make sure the outlet pipe is lagged against it freezing up.

Konrad
I got quote of 3200 pounds for good quality combi boiler, piping and radiators all over the house (3 bedrooms, 2 reception rooms and big kitchen). Aero-M
about 3.5k is right for a new baxi combi boiler and new quality rads like stelrad compacts, on a three bed semi. Worth paying the extra for a worcester bosch or valliant boiler though.
gjp
the only difference between the bottom of the range glow worm and the top of the range is how efficiently it works which is a software upgrade only, the internals are the same.
Pete
I had a British Gas leaflet through the post last week saying it was about £2000 but they'll include first years servicing and warranty jobbie.
