Jellybean
Hey Re-Soldered the light cluster last week, and noticed the engine light was on for a 60 seconds after a quick boost in 3rd. I was reading up this thread ; where are E1 and TE1 in the diagnostics port so I can get the code it is throwing. It is the Engine light that emits the code OR the MIL (Malfunction Indicator Light)? My MIL does not work http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?35920-How-To-Check-the-diagnostics-codes These might be whats causing it Current Issues Misfire -- Coil pack clips are knackered so I need to replace them Need to check Coil packs Cam Gasket Seals are weeping, oil in the park plug well may be causing a misfire too Battery is not holding the charge so maybe a weak battery is causing the Engine light? Everything is getting done at the end of the month just dont want to damage anything, I just drive her the weekend (cruise), so she should be OK? Samurai 20V
There should be a diagram on the inside of the lid of the diagnosis box..

Jellybean
Just did it, the engine light flashed constantly so this illustrates no issues, it styed off on the way home from the gym but work to gym it came on Confused.com
SimonB
Ooops, ignore me, didn't read the first post properly and thought it was the MIL that was coming on... Edited April 15, 2011 by SimonB (see edit history)
DodgyRog
It might sound daft, but just check your interior light doesn't come on as well when your dash one lights up (you need to put the switch in the position to come on when the door opens)

DodgyRog
What will that do If the switch in your door is not reading your door is shut properly the engine triangle light comes on, can just happen with a bit of wear and easily sorted if it's this. Easiest way to find out is the interior light would come on at the same time as the engine triangle It's doubtful it is this, but just thought I would bring it up, as it happened on mine and I checked so many things before realising it was something so simple:taped:

Thanks man, I think it is something simple
SimonB
If it was the MIL (the warning triangle) coming on I would say top up your brake fluid as that's normally the cause. But that won't turn on the engine warning light. Dodgy speed convertor is the other common one, but that should log a fault code.

It has been giving me an error code though, code 42.. speed sensor. There is a fix for it on here which I am going try... You may have the same problem, its related to the odometer function.. Maybe drive the car and switch it off (in a safe place) as soon as the light comes on. It should store the code. I am going to try the fix below, hopefully it works. http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?72588-Code-42-Fix
Jellybean
Thanks man, I might just resolder the odo too but it does sound like it is that
Samurai 20V
I did the fix recommended, seems to have sorted out the problem..I drove till 160km/h, no light came on..
Jellybean
took out the central cluster, The MIL issue was the Bulb, so replaced the bulb and now it works I did the Fault 42 code fix so will see if that fixes the engine light. Just wondering does it matter I didnt go over 120KM or do you have to exceed this for the issue to be the de-liimiter?
Samurai 20V
At least you got 1 issue sorted.. I dont think it is related to speed, mine was coming on at odd speeds at first, then it seemed to be at past 100km/h.. My car doesn't have a delimiter so its definitely not related to that.. According to the threads, it is an issue with the odometer itself.. Good luck..

Ah ok , so most likely a weak solder on the Odo board Taking her for a spin now so will see What is the MIL light for? handbrake light? Think its for all warnings, when the ECU light comes on it lights up, handbrake, door open, brake fluid low..
