ellis
I don't need to believe in a man in a cloud to be nice to people and help them out, that's a choice we can all make if we want to. If you've had some sort of epiphany, great! I haven't - I've always been lovely! Humans are generally a bunch of self-serving, greedy, nasty gits who would step over their own burning relatives if there was a pile of cash on the other side of them. You can't and won't change that by banging on about some beardy bloke who did a few party tricks and got himself nailed to a tree. It's strange that I don't go from door to door trying to get people to realise the 'error of their ways' and believe in golf, porn and tinkering with cars yet religious types do this to me on a regular basis or stand in the middle of the town telling me to turn to god or burn in hell for all eternity (I like the warm anyway so I'm happy to be going 'south'!) If their religion was that good I'd be hammering on their door but I'm not, so sod off, accept that my beliefs and my choices are mine - I respect yours, don't try and force feed me with them. Just leave me the hell alone and get on with doing your thing. And when you pop off and realise that there's sod all on the other side bar an eternity of nowt, don't come crying to me about it! Enjoy this bit as much as you can because it's not a ruddy training ground for the afterlife - this is it. You get one chance at this and one only - so crack on, be nice to people and don't tread on spiders.
Nic
Well I do believe the government are the cause of evil, seeing as they create nuclear weapons to create war . It's not past my bed time I still have to pray , oh and I dont read I hear, then I read and believe . Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they aren't after you. - Kurt Cobain. Where did your moral-ethical system that makes you into a lovely person came from? Did you invent it yourself? Is it genetic? Or could it be related to 1700 years of western belief (since Constantine adopted Christianity and thus disseminated it through Europe) in the Beardy Bloke? The secular humanism that many of us learned from our parents is pretty new on the scene - a generation or two at the most - and has its roots in what went before. imi
I keep hearing how Iraq is worse now than it was before, but have any of you been there? From people that I know (both army and private security contractors) it seems the country is far better, and the majority are far happier now. I personally havent been there but have a few iraqi friends who's FAMILIES are still there. All of them hated Saddam and his regime however state that the situation is far worse today. Think I'm a fool well think of yourself as one, because I was a non beleiver most my family members are non beleivers in GOD and still are, what made me change iv had a wake up call . Do you ever read what you write? Lets ignore the fact that you have to dot the t's and cross the i's for you here and think about what you just wrote. Surely if the Devil holds all the cards it would make far more sense to worship him/her? What are the actual pitfalls of being under the Devils wing? Going to hell? According to God followers hell is the worst place you can imagine, but they are hardly going to paint a pretty picture when they are trying to sell you their timeshare are they? So lets assume that both parties are actually trying to punt their wares to hit the most sales in order of some sort of win bonus (coming at the end of days I would presume). Both are going to be slagging each others eternal resting place so we can pretty much assume that Hell isn't going to be how it is described in mythology...... and neither is heaven since it's always the God side that gets all the press, as they will always bum up their eternal dwelling. So, taking the size of the house with the temperature of the swimming pool out of the equation.... what upside is there to following God? When you are ill he doesn't cure you, when you are poor he doesn't make your rich, when you are sad and want to kill yourself he doesn't console you and make you happy. At least with the Devil you get oil, apparently. I'm off to the fancy dress shop, tell Lucifer I'm one of the boys. I'll even throw in a petrol discount to .net owners.... regardless of religious following.

jazz1
Many people here would think the answer to that question is yes. If God cared, the world would be a very different place? Like I said look around and see a world full of war, hatred, and misery. And as individuals, we get sick, we suffer, we lose loved ones when they die. Like you, many say if God did care about us, would he not prevent such things from happening? Granted he does allow bad things to happen. But there is a big difference between allowing something to happen and causing it. Example your a caring father too your kids, if your kids became rebellious and decided to leave home, you decided not to stop them. Your kids pursue a bad way of life and get into trouble, would you be the cause of the problems? Considering you are a caring person? No. Similar God has not stopped humans when they have chosen to pursue bad course, but he is not the cause of the problems. People can call me insane for believing but call yourself insane because a month ago I was a fool like most not believing .^ Now back on the original topic, I can go on no harm to me, it's only going to annoy most of you if I go on about God, by all means I'm free to carry on debating on a fresh thread ? Have you just found God or have you became religious? Ie, do you follow a religion, Catholic Faith, Protestant Faith, Judaism etc? What instilled the belief in the first place? Did God listen where others looked at you funny? Ask yourself a question.... if you were born and raised in Baghdad do you think you would still have found God? Have you ever wondered if the source of your beliefs are brought upon by your surroundings and being a succeptible person to those surroundings? A crowd follower if you will? Notice how most Christians are brought up in Christian areas with Christian schools? Up here the closest thing to a free thinker regarding Religion is a Catholic Rangers fan or a Protestant Celtic fan. The area where I was brought up is Rangers mad, it was drummed into me from outside sources from a young age but I wasn't at all interested until becoming an adult. I did choose to become a Rangers fan but the outside sources including my friends, family and places I enjoy where I live all had a massive impact on my choice.... and I accept that. For some reason when it comes to religion people seem to like the blinkers and nosebags.
jazz1
I was not talking about religion though and I can't be bothered to type and explain my reasons off change, before you ask it is not the people around me. I was not forced into finding my belief in God, it was my own reasoning, even my parents etc don't believe...... Anyways I need to get ready for work , let's talk about the original topic. penguin
... Lbm
People can call me insane for believing but call yourself insane because a month ago I was a fool like most not believing .^ In recent times I've changed my view on something. Even though I do not believe in God myself, I no longer feel that people who do are fools. I believe they are sincere. Likewise, I do not believe that people who do not believe in God are fools either. They too are sincere. So Jazz it's all good, but be careful not to think that non-believers are fools. That's....err..if I may say so, a little...umm...foolish? Peace out and bananas
