One Rx8 Engine Gubbed!!

Geo

Recommended Posts

Well my mate had a problem with his Rx8 the other day, it just would not start. We tried jumping it, battery was good. But it sounded as if it was the starter playing up, the dreaded clicking sound.

Well he got it uplifted and got it to a Mazda dealer, he got a phone call later today.

Garage said that the blades on the car are below minimum level, in other words a New Engine is required. 6K

He is not a happy chappy!!!

Mate there are plenty of rx8 out there with 100 plus on them, has he run it without oil? Actually doesn't the rx8 come with a no quibble 100'000 mile warranty after being seen as not fit for purpose in the states 3 years back?

oil in there dude. thing is its never run. it sits for wks on end. then when he runs it, it gets nailed all the time.

Have a look on http://www.rx8ownersclub.co.uk. You can get a rebuild with good warranty for about 2.5k.

There do seem to be a lot of engine failures, I guess this keeps the value of this, otherwise great fun, car down.

If not being a member inhibits your viewing of the club forums, give me a shout, as I am a full member.

ah cool, not a member dude. cant be bothered signing up. Do you know if there is any traders up here that could help my friend out? 2.5k seems fair TBH. Have any numbers we could ring etc?

Its the curse of the rotary sadly :( The FC had it, the FD and now the Genesis. The rotors spin at 3 times crank speed, theyre gonna wear out. You would have thought people would learn?

They're used to great effect in light aircraft, due to reliability, power/weight ratio and reliability. Strange the cars never seem capable of this. I suppose rebuild will be a matter of course in aviation though.

I don't get it ! Rover got shot to pieces for their dodgey head gaskets yet no one seems to care that Mazda are making engines that ares scrap after 40k miles. Mazda should remove the rotary engine from production til they can sort this mess out.

My mate must have killed himself, not heard a peep from him since he sent me that Txt last night. :(

If it was me I would be going ape shit at the nearest Mazda dealership. I would make a point of standing next to the RX8 and telling people to budget for a new engine !!
