Stonkin
Recently Cheryl and i decided we were after a summer toy, something with 2 seats and a soft top. In an ideal world, and one we will still work towards, this would be an AC Cobra, weve seen an awful lot of them lately and think they are just stunning. However, we decided something like a kit car would be ideal to have some fun with. Whilst out looking, we were presented with something totally different from our original plan. A TVR Chimaera It was a standard car in silver and blue interior, and whilst sounding lovely didnt grab either of us. We then came across another one, which is British Racing Green, black leather and had a few 'extras' Such as a few interior mods to the dash and controls, different alloys, uprated brakes, the original 4.5 litre engine replaced with a 4.6 works engine 20k miles ago by tvr, which has highlift cams and a few other bits, better exhaust, front end mods to the wings and lights etc From the moment we heard the key started to this............that was it I'll get some better pics and it will of course get a full detailing writeup soon as it badly needs it but here is a quick couple from the iphone as it was just put in the garage for the night
Gaz6002
Oh very nice. Very nice indeed. If you look after it (which it's 100% obvious is going to happen) that should make you money if you keep it a few years. Nice work
johnny g
Beauty! look forward to the detailing. http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?230538-Little-project-i-have-been-working-on I think you should have a read of this
Stonkin
Cheers Gaz. We kept on changing our mind about whether to get it over the last couple of days. Of course they have a horrible reliability record but after doing our homework and making sure it had common issues fixed already, plus being a 1 owner car by an enthusiast, were hoping it will do us well as long as its looked after. Its so lovely and tight to drive and sounds absolutely horrendous cant wait to play tomorrow

Bobbeh
Nice ride, I was looking at one of them before I bought the Supra. The headlights look different on that.. or am I getting it confused with the Griffith?

The headlights look different on that.. or am I getting it confused with the Griffith? The lights changed for facelift versions in 2001, however they still kept the single round unit, just different design. These are completely different from those still. Still going through its paperwork to see exactly what they are Have just found out it has just had GAZ Gold shocks fitted from a receipt, wasnt told that I'll get a startup vid this morning
Chris Wilson
You wanted a kit car.......................................and you have got one Hope it works out for you, they look lovely, but the reality of running them is usually frustrating. One tip, check the front top wishbones VERY carefully, on some models they rust from the inside out, but look superficially fine. A friend was doing a pad change and pushed himself up with his hand on the top wishbone, which immediately bent and broke in two with a shower of internal rust flakes. Car had passed an MOT the week before.
Stonkin
Cheers Chris, i'm praying it will treat us well All the wishbones along with the outriggers were renewed by tvr in 2009. Just had the car down to my mechanic for a checkover and all seems pretty good. Its missing a rubber bung that goes over the clutch housing, 2 lower cv joints on the rear need replacing and it needs a new sump gasket. Although the chassis looks in good nic, its fairly open to the elements so will probably get him to clean it all off and treat it with a rubber stone guard. Just booked it with Tony at WIM for a full geometry checkup.
