neilp9876 Posted April 13, 2011 Share Posted April 13, 2011 (edited) Ive got my car in for a MOT / Service and the cost is adding up very quickly One of the parts needed is the nearside rear wishbone which is apparently £500 + from Toyota for the part. What alternatives are there to this, are there aftermarket ones or can they be refurbished in any way? Or is the price a bit excessive at all? Aftermarket arms are quite expensive too. If its the bushes you can get replacements from Powerflex and R2 racing I had mine done with R2 racing bushes but i dont know if R2 has packed up now. The garage doesnt really want to re-bush it since they think that if the bushes have gone then the ball joint will go as well shortly after so I may as well replace the whole lot now. Fair play mate, £500 is too much for the upper arm so defo get off Whifbitz or Keron My bushes were pretty tired before i replaced them, when re-bushing the balljoints were fine. Dnk Posted April 13, 2011 Share Posted April 13, 2011 The lower main arm is much cheaper than the upper arm (Retail £227 inc vat) , the upper rear is the most expensive out of all of them and the last price i got a couple of months ago was (Retail £430.81 inc vat) I got a chunk of discount off that price and to me it was £344.48 inc vat. Theyve told me I need to replace these, is there any particular symptom for them breaking down or are they a service item? Theyre pretty expensive and I was wondering whether or not I need to have them replaced? EDIt : its just the clips so it doesnt matter. Thanks for the advice guys. Replaced both upper rears for new from paul last year. was the best price I found and car is 10x better now even though there was only very tiny amounts of play in 1 side. The ball joints on the new ones were much firmer than my old ones. I also have no experience with rebushing. but the ball joint on mine was 17 years old. I'd rather not take the chance with expensive bushes, and a pain in the arse job from what I've heard. If you go secondhand, make sure you buy from someone reputable who can tell you the age/mileage, Both of these are important as rubber has a tendency to age badly. I also replaced the coil pack clips last year, only because mine disintegrated. The difference was amazing. I obviously had a slight misfire before changing. The Superpro bushes are very good and a cheap way of getting both rear upper arm bushes changed. We fitted a full bush kit on Steve Lintons race car he reported back a huge change in the way the car felt and handled, worth every penny.
