tkddav3
hey all, had my car fitted with a new headunit today by a car audio/electrical company, ive used them before so i had no worries. i would have done it myself but the wiring was abit of a mess and didnt want this to happen, anyway went to pick it up and the head unit is all good but the gauges dont work. two of them have red lights blinking but the others have no life at all, nor the controller. They said they will try to resolve the problem without charge (too bloody right) just wondering if anybody has any ideas? thanks if anyone can help guys as its one of many things that has ruined my day cheers
Nic
If the red light is coming on it may be a bad connection to the control unit, if they've had the dash panels off the wires have may have been pulled. Check the connectors that plugs into the back of the control unit and into the back of the gauges.
mrmyagiii
i guess u have the link system defi gauges? if the gauge that isn`t working is the last one in the chain, check the connection to the previous gauge and in the gauge that isn`t working. When red light was on on mine, it didn`t recieve info from sensor. Refitted the wires and worked perfect again
tkddav3
yeah i do have the link system, the red light is blinking on just 2 out of the 5, the other3 have no life, ive disconnected all connections to the controller and reconnected but nothing changed so must be behind the dash. Any reason 3 of the gauges have no life, im guessing a wire has been unplugged of some sort. ideas where i can get a diagram for them because they dont usualy deal with a beast like the supra Edited April 12, 2011 by tkddav3 (see edit history)
mrmyagiii
defi has it own site with wiring diagrams if im correct. Mine had a bit of lazy connections. i.e. there are 4 pin outlet surrounded by a white plastic connector. If u dont unplug them with silky gloves the plastic surrounding might come of. So maybe if you press those tight against the circuit board it might solve the problem. (sorry if i made typo but i`m not from england )

It's very easy to remove the dash to check the connections on the back of the gauges, see guide HERE http://www.defi-shop.com/product/dla/images/advance-system-e.jpg

neilp9876
The controller has two outputs to the gauges, on mine one output was used for 3 gauges in the glove box and the other output for the two in the A pillar. I guess yours may be similar and theyve pulled one of the output cables out, theyve also probably pulled the sensor cables out which is why the they showing an error. As the others have said the cables are a bit delicate so will probably just need checking and pushing back in.
