Dave F
Changing my front pads at the moment and have notice that the left pads both have about 3mm left but on the right one pad has about 3mm and the other has none whatsoever (hence the grinding I heard yesterday) anyone know why this is? (the discs are in good shape) Cheers Dave
Alex
Sliding 2pot j-spec front caliper? If so I'd suggest the slide isn't sliding very well and may need renewing.
Dave F
It is a 2 pot j spec, I put in new pads to see what occured and when I took it for a test drive that side got very hot and when I stopped it was smoking could this still be a slider problem if so how do I replace these. I tried doing a search for a caliper diagram but could nt find one so if anyone can post one it would be appreciated. Cheers Dave
merckx
Not sure if there's many diagrams, most are of the UK brakes. I would be surprised if you need to do any more than clean and lubricate them, unless there's corrosion. I would just take them to bits and remember where eveything goes. Dave F
Right, seperated the caliper on the above mentioned hot side, and the two bits that I assume are the sliders ( see attachments and correct me if i'm wrong) will not move at all. I assume that these must be taken out. I tried to pull at these but nothing happens should I keep going or take both sides to a garage to be replaced? Alex
In the 1st pic the two bolts on top should slide out however it will be very hard to do it. Chris Wilson does exchange calipers - old for refurb'd ones...speak to him if you'd just like to sort them out once and for all.
Chris Wilson
The sliders are NOT part of the calipers. You may be able to free them with care and perseverence, or buy new ones from Toyota. I have always managed to free them, so I can't advise on price or availability
Dave F
Got the little bxxxxxds out after a little persuasion and lookin back through previous threads it would seem I need the following, (correct me if I'm wrong) Sliding pin bush 2: 47769-50020 Sliding pin bush 2: 47760-50010 Sliding pin bootx2: 47775-50010 Is it worth buying new sliders (see attachment)and what is the best method of cleaning the original sliders and housing as there is a slight bit of rust visible inside. The pistons are fine so I dont really need the caliper refurb kit
