richarde7927
As im sure most of you know i crashed my car 2 weeks ago and i have been flat out trying to get it repaired for the show session , Yesterday i got it all finished and looking mint . I drove it home yesterday and poped to the shop in it last night about 5 miles in total . I have just gone out to the car this morning and started it up , The engine sounds like the timing belt was damaged and its slapping on the inside of the covers . I turned off straight away and remove the timing belt covers so i could have a look at the belt , The belt looks good so i started the car so i could have a look to see were the noise was coming from , it fired up the noise is still there sounds like the front of the engine to me.Then it started to miss and would not rev above 1500 rpm and the engine management light is now on . Help please . Rich.
dude
Can you see if the 'star' has come off the back of the timing belt pulley on the crank??
bignum
Could be timing star has popped off, or cam belt tensioner, is the belt still tight?

dude
Ah beat me, lol Great minds think alike, can't really be anything else if its making a noise behind the shields and the tensioner looks ok.

dude
that common then guys? interesting They are just a press fit to the back of the little pulley, there is a tab and 10mm bolt in the front of the oil pump, if you forget to take this out and pull the pulley off it knocks the star off the back, seen a few just fallen off now. richarde7927
Thank you for all the help , i have sorted this now it was 2 things in the end , the fan cowel must have broken in the accident and when you rev'd the engine it was pulling a piece of the cowel onto the fan ,so i have removed the lower half of it and that has stopped the noise and at the same time for reasons unknown to me the coil pack connecter has failed on number 1 cylinder , So i have done a temp fix for now . I can take my lip of the floor now . Rich.
