mrmyagiii
I`m having my doubts about the boost controller that i have. I have a j-spec auto tt to start with. The boost controller is a blitz one wich is very similar to this one http://www.titanmotorsports.com/blitdualsbcs1.html It has 4 preset boost settings and 1 "off" mode. when i put it into "off" mode the boost will still reach 1.1bar wich i think is more then a bit high? monsween
Do you have decats and a restrictor ring
mrmyagiii
catback system but not 100% certain about 1st cat from downpipe or RR. Exhaust gasses however dont go that high so i doubt there is an 1st cat left.
monsween
You need to find out that first
mrmyagiii
MOT is next week so then i know for sure if my 1st cat is in or not. there sure is something that looks like a cat in the lowest corner from the downpipe, but that would mean if i hit 1.1bar the temps would be insanely high? monsween
Normally yes it would as the first cat is more restrictive than the second i believe. You should be able to see the cat. Maybe a picture would help If the car's decatted then 1.1bar is not un normal.
RobSheffield
BC can only raise boost, not lower it.
mrmyagiii
complete decat would make it go sky high pressure? unless i have an RR..i`ll pic it first thing in the morning
monsween
Yes and no, with a complete decat all you'd be relying on is the restrictiveness of the exhaust. This in 99% of the time would make it go sky high and is why you NEED a restrictor ring.
mrmyagiii
I haven`t change exhaust sytem since it arrived in the netherlands and it went trough full MOT without any problems. So there should be a 1st cat. But then if i`m hitting 1.1bar that would be bad. Today its going to MOT again so then i can tell 100% sure if there is 1st cat or not. mrmyagiii
Ok just got of the phone with garage. passed MOT so that means i have a first cat. How can i read 1.1bar boost on my 1st cat and thats not quite good with boost controller on "off" setting right? I`d guess that leaves me with 2 options? -Try to get the boost back to stock pressure -get 1.2bar restrictor ring The 2nd one is the easiest but that wont solve the high pressure on stock settings? Any hints/tips?
Swampy442
Maybe the boost gauge is faulty?
mrmyagiii
could be but the boost controller and boost gauge are both reading ~1.1 bar. It was already installed when i bought this car, if i follow the vac-hose it seems to go the the manifold pressure hose. Thats the right one :O? Nic
Ok just got of the phone with garage. passed MOT so that means i have a first cat. Are you sure it has a cat fitted? Have you looked underneath to check? I ask because in the UK a Supra can pass the emissions test/MOT with no cat fitted, not sure what your rules are like there. Pic of stock cats for reference, the smaller one is the 1st cat nearest the engine.
mrmyagiii
i`ll crawl underneath my car tomorrow but i`m pretty sure it has an first Cat. Its an jspec and i don`t know about a supra but my other cars instantly failed without a Cat.
Nic
If it does have the first cat fitted and the boost controller is turned off it shouldn't be making 1.1bar, it should be around 0.8-0.9bar. If it does have the 1st cat fitted check the electronic boost controller is fitted properly, check vacuum hoses for leaks and if you're not sure, also check there isn't a manual boost controller fitted. mrmyagiii
hmmm manual controller that overrides the electric one is a good option. Would the manual-one be connected in the same way? If i had an leaking vac hose wouldn`t it be lower in pressure?or am i mistaken? I`ve had a look from the blitz control box under the hood towards the turbo`s. They look quite stable but i`m total clueless about how it should be wired

mrmyagiii
I`m 100% sure there is first cat. No manual boost controller or leaking vac hoses. I guess i should just remove the first cat anyhow with a Restrictor Ring..
BABZ988
Thanks a lot; Nic mrmyagiii - thats what's i'll try too (when i'll have my 1st decat pipe arrived) to find out what it does!
