Tyson
I am getting a second car as a daily driver and have seen an astra near me. It is a 1998 1.6 Astra Arctic 2 with 49k on the clock. It has a thin scuff down the drivers side, the wing mirror has been taped together and the passenger door only opens from the inside. The car has 12 months mot for which it has had some new brake pipes, track rod end and 2 new tyres. There is no rust and has the odd bumps and scrapes around the car but nothing major. It was originally up for 650 then price dropped to 500. I have negotiated 450 for it which I think isn't that bad. What I wanted to know is are there any things I should check for specific to the Astra and in general.
Lurch
Is it 16v or 8? I've got a 1998 1.6 16v astra as the daily dog and its been the best car I've ever had. Owned it for 3 years now and only problem was a seized caliper. Not bad for a car with 174000 miles on the clock, serviced when I can be bothered. Tyson
pretty sure its an 8 valve as it didn't have an ecotec cover on it. It's the last of the mk3's.

monsween
Its a 450quid astra. Don't think you've got much to worry about other than brakes/tyres
Tyson
just had two new tyres and and the other two are about half worn. Discs and pads changed not many miles ago.
Awisto
I'd get the timing belt done if no history.
