Noz
hi. since installing my amp and removing from front control panel with the heater in, it hasnt worked since. ive checked its plugged in right, ive even checked the fuses. I just cant get it to work. typically, i would leave it, as its the summer and the weather is lush, but i have heat coming out of the dash? its almost like while im driving the heat is on very low but still there. this is seriously tough driving in this weather its like being cooked alive! is there any faults with the heater matrix commonly occuring after age or does it just sound like its packed up and i need a replacement? thanks in advanced for help
stevie_b
It sounds like your matrix itself is OK if heat is coming through, but the controls for it are not working for some reason. Forgetting about AC for a moment, cars can't supply cooled air into the cabin: the best it can supply is external air, moving fast so it feels a bit cooler. If it's hot outside, the blowers can only supply hot fast-moving air. Check the air mixing flap linkage: I don't have time to look it up now but it's a metal link behind/below the passenger glove box.
cje001
I have exactly the same problem so any help or diy guide on what to check for would be most appreciated!
evinX
Joker, good weather is here now. Come back in the winter:D
marc_p
Two questions, 1) Did you plug the orange box back in that sits above the headunit(attached to the headunit cage actually) 2) Do the heater controls light up?
Noz
doesnt switch on, no buttons light up. ive dis connected it and checked the pins (thought maybe id bent one during re-connection) but everything looked sweet. clean pins, made sure it properly clicks back into place. the head is coming from behind the dash not the vents themselves, its as if the engine heat is poorly into the cabin. The Raven
Are you sure you checked the fuses? Both in the engine bay, and the ones in the drivers well?
cje001
Mine lights up, everything works except the temperature knob, just stays hot all the time...
stevie_b
I think the OP's problem is the heater control unit not getting electrical power. Further tests would be needed to deduce whether that was due to a blown fuse or a lunched control unit, or something else. cje001: your problem could still be caused by the linkage rod I mentioned earlier. Have a look at this thread, and specifically post 16: http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?49871-Heater-Maximum-Output-Temperature-Too-Low. I've never heard of the air mixing flap being stuck in the "heat" position but I guess it's possible.
Noz
checked the fuses in the foot well, all are fine. need to find a diagram for the plug on the back and do a voltage check, otherwise im stumped :/
