Abz
Sorry to hear this, but you sound talented (more than CAD it seems). I know a lot CAD workers are needed in London but might be a bit far for you.
mr lover
Sure things will pick up mate, was the best thing to happen to me, got laid off in 2009 and haven't looked back. mind you I did get 3 months garden leave and a redundancy package which obviously helped. tomgeer
The plus side will not be having to spend £200 a week in petrol & lodgings just for the pleasure of working. If you are looking to stay local to the area (Cumbria), it might be worth giving TIS Workington a call (googled their number as 01900 67892 but might not be right?). My mate just got paid off from where I work and has started there as a welder fabricator, he says everythings designed using CAD there, (not sure if they are recruiting for the computer/design side of things but they are looking to take on my shop floor workers due to expanding recently). You could stay in your usual digs as it's only 10 minutes up the road. Maybe worth a call?
Animal
Ah mate, sorry to hear that:(. Is it BNFL / Agency you work for?, I left Sellafield because I kept getting paid of every six months as a contractor. Something will turn up, you'll be alright. I'm agency working for Atkins at the science park in Moor Row. Most of the work is for Sellafield, but also other power stations. Sorry to read about this. Finger crossed that you find something quickly. In the meantime, rock hard, rock heavy, rock Animal. ... listen to a bit of Carcass to ease the pain \,,/ >. I'd prefer to be back in Lancashire, or at least somewhere that is close enough to drive to each day. We'll just have to see what's around. Animal
How bloody shit is this? My manager messaged me on the office msn to tell me she is working from home today (my last day) and then sent an email round the office letting the rest of the staff know I would be leaving today and wishing me well. On the plus side, I fired off 12 cv's yesterday looking at various job sites, so there does appear to be work out there.

Animal
Well, got an interview with Jacobs next Wednesday. It's back up in Whitehaven and it's with the old MD from where I worked a few years ago, so he knows what I'm capable of, which should be a good step. Animal
That's a bit of a commute isn't it? Good luck though! Meh, it's what I've been doing the last 2 years. Drive up Monday morning, 2.5-3 hours, stay in b&b, come home Friday afternoon. It's a pain in the arse as I end up with just the weekend to try and do everything, but it's better than the dole. Got the job at Jacobs I start on the 3rd May back in Westlakes on slightly better money plus expenses, so I'll be about £120 a week better off. Normal service can be resumed.
