edinlexusV8
Impressive!! Been following this for some time and I hope sooner rather than later we get to see more of these on the roads not only in US but in Europe!
ripped_fear
that is amazing and i'm sure eventually this will just be the norm in the future, but all I can think is where will be the fun in driving.
KamaSupra
But all I can think is where will be the fun in driving. I just said the same thing to my girlfriend Amazing invention, would be great for my job as I drive everywhere as an engineer which can be a pain in the ar5e driving sometimes. Attero
I'm not sure this can be put into production since technology is not a trustable source of human saviour. Bugs happen... and can happen more frequently than human errors, especially if it has so much data to process as it does here. The more detailed your surroundings become, the more dangerous it gets, the more data that needs to be processed, the more room for bugs and errors or wrong descisions that were unaccounted for in development. I'm interested in how this works out in the end but I reckon it will have a huge issue for production or use in some countries, especially ours where we are very conscious about everything (hence our health and safety acts). If you cranked back time a bit, and said that we would have things such as plains flying though the sky controlled by computers, and when you stop and think about it there are many modern day situations we put our life's in computers hands its just a matter of technological development. Awisto
My other half would love this, as she hates driving. Great video that. I guess it would mean lower insurance premiums in the long run, especially for the young, lots of benefits all round I imagine. Lots of new law changes would be needed at a guess also. d-_-b
Wow, thats pretty awesome, esp the footage of it driving around town and showing how the car monitors it's surroundings. Roads will end up like those from I-Robot at some point!
edinlexusV8
Would very much help consumer cars but when used in commercial env ... Not being pessimistic but I suspect some delivery drivers will loose their jobs.
Guest 7w34k
I think the technology roll out will be gradual. There are already technologies like auto cruise control cut off and auto breaking in luxury cars. Cars will become more and more automated and eventually (a decade from now maybe) start to truly drive themselves. I think it is awesome. But it is unfortunate that the last people to use this tech will probably be the people that need it most, the reckless and bad drivers that point fingers at everyone else.
