t-one234
hey guys, took my car round to a mate who is a mechanic to look at why my car has a rattle, turns out it was the boot rubber blocks he then took it for a drive and said there was a vibration under heavy accelerating in 1st gear and he said it could be the diff transfer box could this be the case? and if so, how expensive is it? the car is a 1994 manual non turbo

t-one234
its like a deep drone for a few seconds at a certain point in the rev range comes on after 4000 revs in 1st gear i didnt hear it in second but i will check that tonight
skippyboyo1
on all 3 of mine "clicking" was involved....... to both extremes, ive had one just clicking now and again and ive had the other 2 trying to lock up.if i were you id take your boot lining out along with your back seats (the bottom part just pulls out and the top section uses 2 bolts) you will be able to hear whats going on when you take it for a spin alot better and pin point if its 100% coming from the diff. thinking back the early signs that one was going was like a small rattle when i hit the gass hard in 1st so i recs your diagnosis may be correct and the diff has gone. if this is the case and you do drive cars hard i recs it would be a good idea to upgrade to a turbo one, there the same money most of the time but are slightly stronger....dont worry about ratios etc as every one on here said to me they were different....i can assure you theres no difference at all in top end or gears being longer/shorter. hope this helps
