Paul Whiffin
Hi chaps, We've had great success competiting in Time Attack for the last 5 years, finishing 1st and 3rd in 2009, 2nd and 3rd 2010 in class. Its now time for a new challenge, the Eurosaloons race series. We will be up against EVO's, Impreza's, Escort Cosworths, TVR's, etc. Steve Linton will be piloting his own car sponsored and supported by us of course. Spec and details of his car can be seen here. We are pretty sure this is first time a MK4 Supra is being raced in a race series in the UK, I stand to be corrected on that one. The first race is this weekend at Silverstone and its a double header. Qualifying and race on Saturday followed by another race on Sunday. Details on the race series : http://www.eurosaloons.co.uk/default.php Timetable for this weekend's race : http://www.eurosaloons.co.uk/Downloa...011-Issue1.pdf So if anyone wants to come down and see a MK4 Supra competing in 2 races would be great for some support. Please be sure to come along to the pit area to say hello and see the car up close. Thanks Paul

sideexitsupra
From responses on other threads looks like we might need some crowd control! The more the merrier I guess? Looking forward to meeting some of you there!

Homer
Best of luck guys, sounds like an interesting series (not one I'd heard of before) How do you think you'll stack up against the competition - more challenging than TA?
Paul Whiffin
Best of luck guys, sounds like an interesting series (not one I'd heard of before) How do you think you'll stack up against the competition - more challenging than TA? It used to be called the LMA series, that's what it's better known as. To be honest we've go no idea how we will get on, will know more after the weekend of course. Unfortunately we haven't had any testing time at all. The cars have never run on slicks before so the setup will probably be far from ideal this weekend. Plus steve hasn't driven the car since October last year. Basically Steve has a 20 minute qualifying session to set the car up, get used to slicks, learn the track and get back into the swing of things. No pressure then Steve! sideexitsupra
No pressure then Steve! Real racing drivers dont feel pressure:rolleyes:
mwilkinson
I tried to book tickets today and they said they had none available. I asked if that meant they had no tickets for people paying on the day and the young lady was unable to confirm this for me. Any one else tried getting tickets? That's what they said. I assumed they were talking about delivered tickets hence I asked about buying tickets on the day. I just don't want to drive for two hours to be turned around at the gate. I want to come but need some certainty about getting in. Maybe I will give them another call and speak to someone else. P.S. Steve must have a huge underground following who have all chosen this event to come and support him. Angarak
Last time I watched the LMA Series there where some very fast cars (ex-touring nissan almera/vauxhall cavalier and a noble). Dont recognise half the names in the Class A list of drivers for 2011 though, should be interesting. Good luck
SteveL
Thanks for all the support guys, be good to see you all there if you can make it FYI - the silverstone site now states tickets will be available on the gate.
mwilkinson
Just got back from Silverstone. What a great day. Weather was superb and got to see a Supra in a race. Steve did exceptionally well clawing his way back up the field from virtually last to around 10th place (was like the scene from Days of Thunder but much better). Having had a less than successful qualifying session. There was some tough competition and given the fact he was a novice to this class his achievement was all the more exciting. Car sounded phenomenal, on the straights he gained a great deal out performing nearly all the competition but appeared to suffer only slightly in the corners. Of course this all comes from a spectators stand point and I'm sure Steve and Paul can elaborate. I have some serious sunburn, but it was worth it. Hopefully tomorrow will see a top 5 place. A few pictures to follow but others took much better ones which will no doubt show up at some point. Well done guys

mwilkinson
Great news, any vids?? I have one video of Steve, but its from a distance using a crap camera through a fence.....it's pooh!! There were some HD cameras in the car with Steve, but I think there was a camera malfunction. I'm sure there will be some good videos after tomorrows race. mwilkinson
OK here are some photos. There not great but will do for the moment. This car was amazingly quick. It was in a different class to the A series Steve was in but raced at the same time. It lapped all the other cars on the track without trying. It also sounded superb. This Escort Cosworth came 1st or 2nd. Can't remember which but was very quick and well driven.
mwilkinson
And a few more of some of the others cars.
